Reading Files of SD Card

Postby rover » January 14th, 2012, 5:26 pm

Hi, I am struggling to get my Scroll Essential Tablet to take files from the sd card. I have bought a 8gb card from a reputable source, so I think it is genuine. When I put this into my Scroll I get the message reading sd card and the settings show the card with available memory. When I try to access the files on this card eg through Aldiko the only sd card that it shows is the internal one. I can also connect my Scroll to a pc via USB and this shows two drives and I can switch the same files from the new sd to the interal drive, but this is not what I want as the internal drive will soon fill up.
Any help advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum
if you have a file on the removable card search for it with a file manager i lke Astro for this sort of thing
it should show you the directory that its in make a note of the string
i.e mine is
/mnt/extern_sd/heres your file
then in Alkido change where it sends files to in settings
i'm a bit vague but i dont have essential or alkido im a kindlle man i love the whispersync
if this dont help post back and i'm shure someone will come along

Hi and thanks for the quick response, I think the problem is that the Scroll does not seem to read the external sd card, when I use an app and try to read from the card, all I seem to get is a list of files on the internal sd card. I have a file manager program (not Astro) and this seems to do the same. Any ideas ?

Hi again, that is my problem the only directory I can see it is the internal sd card. For some reason the external one doesn't show. How can I get the scroll to recognise it?
All help appreciated.

hi
did you get astro app
i have uploaded the astro.apk to her for you (link removed)
just follow this link with your scroll browser and dowload it
(or if its easier get it on pc and put it on your sd card)
once download complete perss the menu button and you will see a search button
click that type Astro it should find it click that and it should ask you to install
(before you do anything go to settings/applications and tick the Unknown sources button this allows you to side load apps

Edit: does the scroll make a noise when you insert the card (you have to push it right in with your nail)?
Is the card formatted to FAT32?

Hi again, thanks for the link, I have now downloaded Astro but still can't see the sd card. When I put it in it does click into place and the Scroll says reading sd card. Is my Scroll faulty ?

Hi Rover,

Are you powering down the Tablet 1st and then inserting the card? - I found that helps, power on - lever to pair and then use ES File Explorer to find it (even with this app it's still so stupid to find the new Micro SD CARD, but once you have done it once or twice it becomes easier.
Also have you tried adding some kind of file to the card 1st via the pc and then searching for it on the tablet like Mitre suggested?
I am dyslexic what's your damage?
