Charging Issue on Scroll Excel 7" Android 2.3

Postby mancity » January 30th, 2012, 8:48 am

Hi guys,

I received my Scroll Excel on Friday. It is the 7” Android 2.3 version with the white back.

I am really impressed with it, however, it refuses to charge from mains? I can charge it through USB and even connect the USB to a plug and charge it that way, but cannot charge it through the DC port and charger.

I have contacted Storage Options and am awaiting a response, however after looking around the internet there seems to be an idea that this may well not be a hardware issue, but rather a software one?

Does anyone have any information on this and is there any kind of fix?

Any help would be really appreciated :)

Hello, @mancity, and welcome to the Forum.

Are you sure the Excel isn't charging?

My Excel is cold to the touch when charging and I don't think the power supply gets warm either. There is no light on the Excel to indicate that it's charging. When I first had it, I didn't think mine was taking a charge, but it was.

The next time it needs charging, if it's switched off, you should momentarily see a charging icon appear on screen, then that's it... nothing! Leave it to charge for 10 or so hours to ensure a full charge... if it's not then fully charged you may have a problem the device.

I haven't attempted to charge the Excel from the mains when it's switched on, but I would assume the battery level icon (at the top of the screen) will indicate whether it's charging, much the same as it does when connected to your computer via USB.

Hope this helps.

Comon you Spurs! lol

Yeah it's definitely not charging because when the device is turned on and connected via mains the battery level is dropping constantly through use.

Also, when connected via USB the battery icon has a lightning strike (or whatever) through it to show it's charging.

When turned off, I do not get the battery icon like I should for a short period.

I did when I charged it initially, but never since I turned it on for the first time (which is why I thought it could be software related).

Could it be faulty mains charger? Maybe try another adaptor of the same voltage rating, you can get multi-adaptors cheaply from Wilkos etc.

The Storage Options site says 5V so i'll go with that and hope I can find one with the right connector :)

Cheers.

I'll have a look but I dont think this is the issue because the charger worked the very first time I plugged it in and I haven't really touched it so doubt it broke by itself.

Still waiting to hear back from SO but will let you know if they say anything interesting and non-obvious :)

Picked a Universal USB charger up just now which has about 10 attachments on it (3 possibles for the right size), so i'll try it on my Scroll tonight and let you know.

I can still use the charger for something else if it's no good for this or I could just use this charger with a Mini-USB cable on my Scroll so it's not a wasted purchase, but I really would like to get the DC port to accept a charge :)
