@ Mitre,

Following on from this thread viewtopic.php?f=48&t=1978

I think you should put a warning in the 1st post not to use 'stericson busybox app'

As I now have CWM5 - I see it is like the one we put on the 1st gen Scroll - It does not back up the internal memory (mnt/sdcard) - So if people are flashing new roms, this could get wiped out. So people will need to copy or pull any or all files/folders they don't want to lose from mnt/sdcard - (Also the SO pre-loaded apps are on that part, I think)

i think thats the case with all CWM so you backup with titanium first flash the new rom then restore titanium

but i will put this in the OP as newbs will no doubt just do it then moan they lost all their apps

CWM does back up apps in data/ - It just does not back anything on the mnt/sdcard. I just normally plug the Excel into the pc mount the internal memory (sdcard) and copy to the PC all the stuff I want to keep.

@Charlie and @Mitre - I've been following the work you've been doing with @blueeagle69 to resolve his problem... how unlucky is he? And what an amazing level of determination from you all to get the device working again. Hopefully, you've nearly cracked it.

For the uninitiated, what's the difference between CWM and Titanium? Is it that CWM backs up the 'System' partition, but not the internal sd card partition and Titanium takes care of the internal sd card partition?

On my PC, the Excel's internal and external sd card partitions are visible and the files are accessible. The 'System' partition itself is visible, but none of the actual files are visible or accessible. Is there a method of making the 'System' partition files visible on the PC (or is this why we need ADB and the like)?

Keep up the sterling work with @blueeagle69!

Well CWM makes an image of each of the following partitions

/boot
/cache
/system
/data
/recovery

Titanium back can be used to backup system and data apps - but it does not make an image.

Like when you backup your photos on a pc to an external hard drive (ie like titanium backup), you have a backup of the photos that you can put back on the PC, but this will not restore the PC fully. Now for creating a system img (think Norton ghost or casper) these programs make an .img of the whole system (ie like CWM).

Sorry if I have not explained that well, it makes sense in my head, lol

Excel

CWM is a custom recovery hold menu and power together gets you into a recovery menu with a lot more options than a OEM stock recovery . from here you can flash a new Rom or backup a good version of your tablet so if it goes wrong as did blueagle66
you can just restore the image you made and your tablet will boot with all your apps router settings email everything
titanium is more a backup of your apps if you flash a new Rom using clockworkmod ICS for example you should be able to put your baked up apps and settings into the new rom
charlie will put me right as i have only just started using titanium and dont know all it does
