Can you turn off the screen

Postby mancity » January 31st, 2012, 8:53 am

...when connected to a TV through HDMI?

Just wondering if my Scroll Excel can do this? I cannot find an option anywhere so im guessing not, but I cannot see why I shouldn't be able to?

I know you can download 'screen off' app's, but when watching Netflix, you would need to go to the homescreen to toggle the 'offscreen app', in which doing so stops the film from playing.

Check this out: This is a screen brightness filter App allowing you to use your Scroll in low level light.

viewtopic.php?f=26&t=1702

This will reduce the screen brightness to a very low level. You can add an icon to your home screen, a quick tap and the screen brightness reduces. You can drag the top of the screen down and select the App to adjust the level of brightness if you want to change your level setting at any time. I know this is not quite what you are asking but it might be worth a try. The screen brightness would be very low when turned on allowing you to use the Scroll. You can play the movie via your Scroll and you would not notice the Scrolls display whilst watching the movie through your TV.

4shared is your best bet to get the apk.

Hope this helps :)

Cheers

@a0r0a7 - Great tip thanks.

Also it will come in handy for saving battery, when you can get away with having the screen brightness lower for normal usage.

Hi Mitre

Not sure why no one saw my first post.

It does help extend the battery life though and I thought it would work for the TV situation :D

I tried this and got the same :(

I cannot see why Android has this issue? When I connect my laptop to a tv, the laptop screen automatically turns itself off. It's obvious common sense. Why would I connect my tablet to a tv, and want to see it on both screens :?:

Plus, with my DC port/ charger broken, I have to charge throug USB, which discharges fatser than it charges whilst trying to watch Netflix through a tv... (was at 73% battery before the film and 40% after even though it was charging the whole time).

you would want the touch screen if you was doing a presentation on a large screen so you could manipulate the device so its a fault of the video app not the excel the video app should send the command to turn off the backlight when its sending video to HDMI

That's a shame.

I would have thought the scroll screen would have been darker whilst the TV video would be normal on the HDMI out unaffected by the filter setting. :x
