Solved - 7" model 51624 won't boot after firmware update

Postby gcb » February 18th, 2012, 6:42 pm

Hi I hope one of you experts can help me I tried to burn the new firmware from the Scroll Options website to my 7" scroll and now it won't boot just shows the white Scroll Options screen and won't go any further, I can though get to the recovery section which will allow me to burn more firmware, clear cache, factory reset device.

I suspect it was my fault as I downloaded the firmware from here http://www.ccidistribution.co.uk/upload ... -51624.zip which I believe is the correct version for my model, however, when I tried to install it, it was looking for update.zip and as the file isn't called that i renamed it, I now suspect this was the wrong firmware for my model.

Please can someone help? I hope this now doesn't become an expensive door wedge instead of a tablet

Ok, good - So it seems from the link that you gave, this is the right firmware update for the right tablet model.

And when you flashed the update, you were on stock firmware? (ie - you not on a custom one from elsewhere)

Yes that is correct, the only thing that didn't feel right whilst following Scroll's instructions was that I had to rename the zip in order for the Scroll to detect it, they did say not to rename it = wrong firmware update ???

Actually I say that but I bought it second hand from eBay so I would hope so.

I take it that you have been able to boot normally before trying this update?

If you could boot normally before, the previous owner could have put on different firmware (ie like cyanogenmod) so the update would mess with this as it's only an update and not the full firmware.

(So in windows terms, you had vista and flashed an update for xp = not good.)

Most likely your only options are to flash CWM recovery and put on an original stock firmware or a custom one. All info & files on this can be found on this forum. It is doable, but will take awhile. (But not guaranteed to fix the issue, as we don't know what the last person did with this tab.)

Hi Charlie

Many thanks for your help so far, very very much appreciated!

Would you be so kind as to point me in the right direction to start this recovery, maybe a link or two as to where I should be looking, I don't mean to be dim I just don't want to mess things up any further, if there's the option to go customised then I would prefer it if there's advantages.

Many thanks!

Hi Gary

Sorry, I don't have time at the mo', but if you look for the links on this forum to the posts you are going to try, myself or another forum moderator can say if it's the right one or not for your Scroll tab.

EDIT: As you seem to have the 1st gen Scroll , a member called Warpedflash has a 'how to' on flashing CWM for that model.

Hi Charlie

Thanks I will have a look and see if I can try some of the things that he mentions in the hope of getting things up and running, will let you know how it goes, in the meantime maybe someone else might have some ideas.

Cheers
