What's the long term outlook for the official Market-Excel?

Postby sammyboy » January 24th, 2012, 2:09 pm

I bought a Scroll Excel yesterday and love it so far! Got the marketplace up and running easily using that 'uncheck hidden Google app' option and adding a shortcut to the desktop, even able to download apps to the tablet from the web version on my laptop!

However, I read somewhere that Google could be cracking down on non-approved devices using the Marketplace - does this mean that I could have some problems down the line - or could Storage Options have a 'cease and desist' notice dropping on their doormat from Google's lawyers? Is it a case of enjoying having Android Marketplace on my Excel while I can but expect it to stop working properly at some stage in the future? I've read SO have been trying to get official Marketplace support from Google but so far they have been not very forthcoming - any more news on SO making any headway in that department?

Hope this isn't a silly question, apologies if it is :)

its not a silly question at all
I can understand Google not liking the bad press they get when a badly made tablet makes the apps not work properly and everyone looks to google saying its the OS
but being an open source project any work they do to stop market working will be hacked by a dev and sent around the net for everyone to emulate, unless they lock it down like Apple they cant win this one
Just as long as those Yanks dont close down every website around the world
WHAT DO WE WANT?
A TIME MACHINE!
WHEN DO WE WANT IT?
IT DOESN'T MATTER

Thanks for the reply, hopefully they'll leave the market as it is on the Excel, mine's so far running the older version of the Market but don't mind as long as it continues to work!

From my experience so far SO are one of the good companies, heard customer service is very good, and apart from the touchscreen sometimes selecting something on the opposite side of the screen to where I touch (will start a separate thread on that) the Excel's a brilliant device for the price. I'm surprised SO are having so many problems with Google getting the Market officially licensed :(

If you want version 3.4.4 of the market, I have it.
Works great.

Yes, it does.

Employees are like mules. Some you stand in front of and coax them along with a carrot. Some you stand behind and kick them in the arse. The key to management is knowing which mules are which!
