PLEASE HELP! Scroll 8" 2.3 andriod - many questions!

Hi people, so I've turned 18 & recieved this Scroll 8" tablet for my bday with 2.3 andriod pre-installed. Been using it for half an hour and I am actually shocked at the amount of problems I've come across.

Firstly I'm considering installing a modded firmware so I have access to all the homebrew apps & system mods (somethings I am in DIRE need include an actual app store, themes, modding of my 'pull down' tab, battery % icon, microsoft word suite and lastly but certainly not leastly, a pokemon app). I have read into things on this forum about 'gingerbread', but find it difficult to understand. I'm not the most advanced modder, I put blackrain on my last iphone, but other than that I haven't got the time to learn.
Furthermore is there anyway I could install an I-tunes type software so I could connect the Scroll 8" with my iphone4?

Secondly I've noticed how slow the bloody thing is, kmon I understand it isn't an ipad, but really, lag when scrolling pictures?! I was wondering if I could replace the 256mb ram with a 512 or better? Or allocate a proportion of the hard drive to increase its speed? Also I know it says the max SD card is 16gb, but does anyone know if it could take a 32gb or more? And could excess memory be allocated for additional speed from an SD card?

Other minor issues include the inability to view video on the youtube app (I see a black screen but recieve audio), the inability to download .ppt / .doc formats (instantly 'fails'), also I'm locked on sild tilt orientation (I activated 'auto tilt' and it goes straight to landscape, tried re-calibrating but it doesn't help). I'm sure there are many more, but like I said I've only played with it for an hour or so.

Hi and welcome to the forum
there arnt that many posts regarding the 8"scroll but a lot of it is generic across devices 32gig card should work ok
there is a cyanogen7 for this tablet but it has no video

Thanks for the reply Mitre, by no video do you mean it won't play any video at all? because I was planning on loading an SD card with films & playing on my tv via HDMI?

What could you tell me about cyanogen7, its capabilities and if I would be able to carry it through? Its just I'm new to andriod and aren't familiar with all this technical jargon.

Also - new issue, just tried updating the firmware through settings and although it attempts to download I get an immediate error saying that it was unable to open /nand/update.zip because it didn't exist.

Have you downloaded an update from the SO support site? Likelyhood is it will already have the latest f/w on it

I know it's a bit tricky as the Scroll tab you got was a b/day present - but you might be better off to see if you can return it and get a Scroll Essential (about £69) or an Excel (£129)

Can not comment too much on your tab (not owed one) but it's like the 1st gen tab (that I do have) - Your one does have a 8" screen (resistive) and OS 2.3 (where my one was a 7" resistive screen and 2.1.1) so almost the same. I now have the latest Scroll tab an Excel (SO are launching a 9.7" tab with ICS in a few weeks mine you) - The Excel is way better, faster CPU, more RAM etc. I am very happy with it (ok it has some minor lip-sync issues, but we are working on that) - There is more support for an Excel on this forum at the moment.

Should be max 32gb all of the SO tabs are AFAIK - Make sure you don't get a doggy one from ebay (I.E. A 32gb one that really is a 4gb one)
