Thinking about buying an extreme - price and specs look good. Happy to pay a small premium to buy from a UK vendor rather than take my chances with a similar no name brand direct from China.

However, there seem to be a large number of posters reporting serious quality control problems. I appreciate that buyers are more likely to post about a problem (I guess happy buyers are too busy playing with their new toy) but there are a lot of comments about dirt under the screen, buzzing, dead batteries. One poster is onto his third extreme which statistically speaking is very unusual.

Based on the customer reviews posted on the Ebuyer website, 1 in 10 have reported a problem but it feels like it could be a lot higher based on this forum. So my question is were there similar problems when the Excell was launched? It was a repeat of the Gadget Show review which led me to find the Extreme. And also would be great to see a few more posts from people who have had good experiences with their Extreme! :)

I don't think he's on his third Extreme, I think he bought two and had to send one back? What with the release being before a bank holiday and the replacement process taking a week in itself, there wouldn't have been time for that many replacements yet. I sent mine back 2 days after getting it and am still waiting for the replacement.

But yeah, three replacements would be excessive. If my next unit comes back with a major fault, I will just get a refund next time.

Apologies. That would make more sense and hoping the replacement is good for you all!

@mattblack - I have a 1st gen SO tablet (#1) and an Excel (#7). Had the 1st gen one for over 15 months now and still going strong, had the Excel for 2 months and it is still working fine (touch wood) - Yes both sometimes reboot or do something crazy, however it is so very rare, but not unusual for electronic goods these days. The 1st gen one had a speck of dust from new and a 1 more now, which seem to move around. The Excel came with no dust under the screen but has one now. I personally do not find this an issue, in an ideal situation it should have no dust at all, but I feel that something would have to give, ie price be higher, slower CPU smaller screen etc.

Yep DOA is a pain or even it goes wrong a few days later, even more so if this happens just before a long bank-holiday weekend.

Hope this helps.

I've ordered one. I never accept any defects. There shouldn't be any.

A tablet pc is a luxury and we pay a premium for that. PCWorld have some excellent dual core netbooks for about the same price and you can get superb "real" kit for £300. I originally bought a Xoom for £330 cos it was Xmas and I was feeling silly!! Got my money back from John Lewis when it failed. And when I did I didn't feel like spending that amount again especially when I used my brain and was looking at the new super computers - all in one, big screens, even touch screen for £500. I mean price for price and performance and a tablet is expensive. But its fun!! And it sits on the coffee table. So I reckon £200 is about right. They should all be about that - especially with such a good screen (hopefully!) Apple prices for instance are ridiculous.

Seriously you can't do as much as fast with a tablet PC if you are talking about real work. Cutting, pasting, typing, foto editing - everything is faster on a real PC. I do my real work on a big screen PC. On the other hand I love the tablet as a groovy bit of kit. and I think this one is one of the few in the UK that has Android 4. And I'm dealing with UK firms. I prefer to buy British if I can (I know - it's probably made in China!).

Anyway I'm looking forward to getting a 100% perfect tablet pc soon.

As far as hardware goes, I would send mine back if it had any problems due to poor quality control.

However, when you say 100% perfect tablet PC, your expectations are way too high.

Just letting anyone reading this know,

I've also just received my Scroll Extreme from ebuyer, it too has 2 dead pixels/dust under the screen! DAMNIT! Didn't notice till I took off the screen protector and had a white wallpaper. Pretty annoying really when I paid for next day delivery and now have to wait for their phone line to be open and probably pay for return post. Never mind having to wait for a new one! Argh!

They will send a courier to collect it from you for free. They'll post the replacement after "diagnosing" the faulty one which they claim takes 3-5 days. You might want to get them to refund the postage too, not sure if they will do that or not as mine was free delivery.
