So your saying the Excel is usb 2.0 ? .. and the scroll extreme being newer is usb 1.0? lol elaborate please

The way I read it "Acemacbase" is it depends if the HDD is usb1 or usb2 - not the tablet. Is this right "Sysiphus"? ;)

O right so it does not matter if the HD is self powered or not just as long as it's USB 1.0 that seem's silly for a tablet in 2012 to be only workable with a 1.0 usb device :S o well what about file system all my drive's are NTFS as there are file's on there such as 3D film's and they are huge file size wise one for example is 18gig lol as the extreme boast's 3d streaming to TV sets it was the only option I had as FAT32 is only good for file sizes just less then 5 gig so i could not get them on to any other formatted device i could split the file with archiver but that then would just render it useless .. lol

You are right 3G is not required, but apparently it is possible to have full GPS tracking working with a bluetooth GPS data logger device (£35) connected to the tablet via a bluetooth USB dongle and a mapping app like iGo or google maps. Check this video:

Yes this is an option if you don't have an Android phone but obviously not as straightforward.

Nice of you but that does not answer the question in my head lol..

My excel recognised NTFS hard drive's as long as the scroll excel was plugged in at the wall the hard drive I have which is a Hitachi 2.0 device worked perfectly fine.. where as the newer scroll extreme even plugged in does not provide it with enough power and thus render's the HD useless just tick's over can hear it attempting to spin I did send the extreme back as faulty for the buzzing sound that people had been hearing and I receive my replacement tomorrow maybe the fault also effected power distribution ?? :S

i would say that the voltage trhoughput on the excel usb is regulated and the older scroll is not therefore the usd drive cannott pull enough power from the tablet to spin the disc the excel will not cargwe from a 1000Ma usb wall charger whhilst the old scroll 2.1 will so i would say the regulator is working wihth current flowing both ways?

No idea just got my new replacement no buzzing sounds browser is a lot faster! , but still no luck with External HD's tried two different one's both NTFS format usb 1.0 - 3.0 compatible same result as last time just not providing enough power so I will try a self powered external HD tomorrow see if I have any better results.

Sounds promising! :)

You need a usb cable that has one end for power and one for data, i have one but i dont know what its called, i just tried with my excel using a random 2.5" hard drive formated to NTFS and i could see the drive contents on the Excel no problem..

Suggsy89, what OS are you running on the Excel, GB or ICS as I thought GB couldn't read NTFS - if it can then I need to edit my How To?
