NTFS file format recognised by out of the box Extreme!

Postby Trashcooky » April 16th, 2012, 9:39 pm

Hi folk - I'm back from a nice weekend break to find that cantisque has posted the fact that NTFS file format works with the SD card on an out of the box Extreme. We already know that NTFS is not recognised by the Excel and/or the Essential and I know from other forums that some tablets won't even recognise the Linux file format Ext3/Ext4 without first modding the kernel. I am curious if someone who has an "Excel" running ICS could please try and see if their tablet can recognise the NTFS file format on their external mount SD card?

The reason I am asking is that I was told that NTFS is a Microsoft copyrighted file format only available under license.
If this is so then perhaps Google have done a deal with MS for a license to embed NTFS compatibiliyt in ICS - thanks in advance for trying, perhaps if you are really geeky and don't mind trying you could also prove/disprove Linux Ext3/Ext4 as well.

Thanks in advance :) This is important for anyone wanting to load files on their SD cards bigger than 3-4 Gb.
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!

Just edited my previous post, regarding Gingerbread, i did remove the sdcard before unmounting so that could of caused the "You need to format...." error on my PC, but before i removed it it worked fine.

Yes this is Extremely (pardon the pun) handy. lol.
I plugged an NTFS formatted USB flash drive into my ICS Excel, and it worked a treat.
Can you write to NTFS partitions too then (I never tried that).
If that works too, then I am even-more impressed.
And it takes a lot to impress me...........Oohh look, a red shiny ball....
Normal sanity is resumed.
Says it all. ICS tablets are more capable than my PS3.
And I really don't fancy custom firmware on my console tbh.
Trying to get a movie bigger than 4gb onto my PS3 is a real git. And pretty-much impossible.
But my ICS Excel, no-problem.
The first step in being right is admitting that you're wrong
