Performance : general and streaming...

Postby darkcyde » April 21st, 2012, 2:31 pm

Hi

I've been trying to watch my usual episodic stuff on Youtube but now in glorious 9.7", but it was stuttering like mad. At first I thought it was wifi signal loss, so I moved my wifi source closer and away from interference, but it was still happening.

I was browsing the forum and noticed someone suggested removing Task Killer (which mine came preinstalled)...I did this and have noticed a major improvement with the overall performance, and more importantly with streaming...I was now able to flick between Youtube vids with no slowdown or stuttering at all (however, the Youtube timeline still doesn't allow you to move back and forth!).

So my advice to anyone with an Extreme is to remove that task killer app straight away!

There are some other things which can help also.

I turn HD off on both YouTube and Ted, this could be my Internet though.

The big difference for me is a CPU control app. By default the CPU has a set range of 60mhz to 1200mhz, 60 is far to low. I've set mine to 300mhz minimum to 1152mhx max.

This makes things much smoother for me in general use.

Not sure what other people's experience is.

Forgot to say, don't set anything at boot.

Be careful with the setCPU app (which is a great app) but it messes up the Excel - So could do the same with the Extreme, Its never been an issue with a Scroll tablet before the Excel.

Not tried SetCPU, had seen some issues regarding this so just went for the free one's.

Don't these kind of apps require root access, or is the Extreme already rooted?
