4.0.4 - Should I / Shouldn't I

Postby BobC » May 21st, 2012, 7:53 pm

At the moment my Extreme is away on it's holidays - some manufacturing problems that need fixing with a replacement. When I get it back I was thinking of upping the s/w to 4.0.4 (404 - is that a bad omen). The problem I had though was that I never could get my PC talking ADB to the tablet.

The question is - if I still cant get the two to talk ADB is it possible / sensible to :
a) backup the existing ROM so I can go back to it
b) perform the upgrade
c) restore original ROM.

It can be done without a pc, you would need to install CWM via terminal emulator on you Extreme.

At the moment, dont rush to upgrade... The rom i have ported is stable, but very power hungry, which is a major problem it seems.

I will update the "CWM for the Extreme" thread on a way to install via it via terminal emulator.

Download > https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=4 ... 0sVnwQPK14

Extract "install-recovery.sh" and "recovery.img" to "data" folder on the device.
You may need a file explorer program here... also download Termial Emulator from the play store.

Type each line separately in the console... hopefully the commands are right

Code: Select all
cd /data/
chmod 755 install-recovery.sh (if this doesnt work, skip it)
install-recovery.sh

Edit... Just had a thought, the above may not work as the "install-recovery.sh" points to /data/ so in theory the command may try to excute "/data/data/install-recovery.sh" i havnt tested it so dont know as yet.

Thanks for the info - I'll stay away from it for the moment if it's a juice gobbler and concentrate on finding out why ADB is stuffed.

I've had an Linux powered E-ink book reader for about four years now and I'm surprised that it can last weeks on a 950mA/h battery - I connect to it using SSH over USB and have wondered if the drivers for that might be conflicting with the Android ones. I'll investigate further once I get the Tabbie back using my laptop stripped of the Linux drivers.
