Have I bricked my Scroll?

Postby sygin » May 22nd, 2012, 7:23 pm

Hi,

I was editing the Scroll Extreme's build.prop file.
I made some changes and rebooted. Now my scroll will not boot up.

It is stuck on the android screen.

Is there anything I can do?

Thanks,
Sygin

Are you using CWM? If so then you should be able to copy a new zip to the sd card (if you have a card reader) and enter that to flash.

IF not then you should be able to use LiveSuit and flash an early beta or suggsys rom (viewtopic.php?f=57&t=2548) just to get it to work again.

One of those options should work.
Cheers,

How did you edit the build.prop? If you did it via ADB for example you can just push back the original build.prop file and it will reboot fine - If you don't have that file, I am sure someone on here will upload the original one for you to use and your tab' will be back to how it was before the build.prop edits.

Thanks Piers & Charlie.

I edited the build.prob file on the device. I have a backup of the file on the device.
Currently I am frantically trying to install the Android SDK to get ADB up.
Hopefully I can connect.

Piers, thanks for the link. I am assuming that I install LiveSuit and us it to install the ROM?
Is the stock extreme ROM available?

Thanks,
Sygin

I am 99% sure suggsy has a backup somewhere, but I don't have a link to it.

Hi,

Good news, all fixed.

Managed to connect using ADB and pulled the backup build.prop and pushed it to /system/build.prop

I have been told to buy my own scroll.
Note to self, do not use the wife's Scroll for development.

Thank you for your support Piers, Charlie and Suggsy.
You people rock.

All the best,
Sygin

If anyone has a build prop for the Extreme that will enable more apps on Google Play please let me know?

I was originally trying to turn my scroll into a Xoom.
This is to get the ASDA app installed.
It says that it is not compatible with the Extreme.

Thanks again,
Sygin

@sygin - Glad to hear you got it sorted

Until a new build.prop and other files are available for your firmware version you are using (I take it you are using Stock firmware) to open up apps on the market, you can sideload apps from another Android device to your tab' - It's not the best way and takes a little bit longer, but it gets the job done.
