Couple more questions before buying

Postby burgergetsbored » May 23rd, 2012, 11:19 pm

Hey, I'm still torn between whether to buy an extreme or not. Can someone answer these simple questions. If I happened to be using the 4.0.4 rom on here how many of the following things would I be able to use/do perfectly with no lag (possibly with music in the background:

Facebook
twitter
email
reading pdfs (aldiko app)
video streaming through app or browser(iplayer, youtube app)
calender synced to google cal
some sort of remote desktop app
quick office pro for small word processing and frequent powerpoint viewing.
doubletwist media player
bbc news, engadget
google drive
ultimate guitar tabs
evernote
random games (temple run, GTA )
sky+

2) . How long does the tablet take to connect to wifi after waking up, is it instant? As I have no intentions to turn my tablet off as I feel it should always be there for my to instantly use it for quick tasks.

3). If any lag where is it most likely to be seen? in apps? switching between apps?

4). How good is the screen quality? Mainly for reading text, I know it's not going to be retina display standards but whats zooming on in text and stuff like, as I plan on using it a lot for reading programming books (500 page odd pdf's) I don't want to be squinting trying to read pixelated text :P

Thanks a lot for any answers!

Video streaming yes, but that is a general issue with flash player and ics itself.

Its a perfectly working rom if you decide to upgrade the firmware from stock. Its much better than stock i can tell you that. There are also a number of other roms on the net too which ive heard are good aswell.

Its a nice cheap tablet to start off with if your budget is tight.

I think its more to do with flash+ics+allwinnerA10 - it works perfectly on a friends ASUS Transformer Pad.

Asus released a number of fixes for it and now it does work, but when the Transformer came out it was a different story. As we all know, Storage Options don't offer software updates for the Extreme but suggsy does

Ah, so it was rubbish on that too at first? So it is definitely something that can be fixed by a ROM?

well what I wrote above are the things I need the tablet to do, If it can do all of them perfectly I don't see the point in paying over double for a ipad. They're all pretty basic tasks so I can't really see the processor struggling with them, then again I've never used one so I don't know. Yeah I was planning on upgrading to 4.0.4 if I got it.

For the money it's not a bad device. The newer firmware builds make it much more like an iPad than an ePad.
