Extreme has been unrooted

Postby mcevoyt » May 24th, 2012, 3:25 pm

Hi, after trying to flash my Extreme with a new rom I seem to somehow have unrooted it. I was unsuccessful in flashing it and now am buggered as i can seem to re-root it. has anyone got any steps on how to root the device please.
Thanks in advance

How did you "unroot" it... Cant see how that can be done accidently...

Silly pointers here, as I'm no expert.

But you do have the following setting set dont you :-

Developer options -> USB debugging [Ticked]
Security -> Device Administration -> Unkown sources [Ticked]

As I say, no expert, but I believe these options must be set to be able to load the ROMs.

Regards

Kevin

No idea how I unrooted it, all i did was try and flash a new Rom and before I did that I did a factory restore. Now I can boot and use the stock Rom but am unable to flash any new Roms probably due to the device no longer being rooted.

Developer options -> USB debugging [Ticked] - this is enabled
Security -> Device Administration -> Unkown sources [Ticked] - no available device administrators and unable to add any

When you flashed a new Rom, was it successful?
What Rom was it?
How did you flash it?

Hi Charlie, I tried to flash it with the 4.0.4 ROM however that failed. Flashed it through CWM.

Do you mean Suggsy's ROM? If so maybe he can shine some light on to why/what happened.

Try doing a factory reset again. Also the only thing I can think of is that with the flash failing is that some of the files in /bin and or /xbin have got messed up.

Can you still get in to CWM?

Yeah Suggsy's ROM was the one I tried to use.
Will do a factory reset again tonight, I can still get into CWM however I can't mount anything.

Can you get the Sd Card to mount when using the tab' in normal mode?

Yeah, in normal mode everything is fine, SD card mounts as well as an external SD card. i know it's not rooted as I am unable to copy files to any of the system directories and also in a terminal when I type su - I get permission denied.

If you are running 'terminal' from/on the tablet, are you sure "Super User" app is installed and running?
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!
