Problem connecting to WiFi

Can anyone help: I cannot get my Scroll Extreme to connect with my WiFi. Android phone works fine. The tablet can see my home network lynksys secured with WEP. In advanced settings: WPS is Off, Proxy NONE and IP DHCP. On Router DHCP is enabled and securiy settings are PSK, SSID-enabled and AES encription. When I enter WiFi password and press Connect, it says: saved secured WPA, then: authenticating, then: obtaining IP address. At this point it just sits there. On the Advanced menu it says tthat IP is unavailable.

I picked up a BT openzone. Can connect to this. If I can crack this it seems that this tablet will do everything I require of it. The frustration of not getting past base is now getting to me!

Could be several things.

Do you have your router locked down to only accept wifi connection from named mac addresses. I know I do.

If this is the case, you need to add the mac address of ghe extreme to the list, or switch off to allow any wifi device.

How many devices do you have connected. Some wireless routers limit the number of connecions as loads of broadband suppliers limit the number of connected devices to 4.

Do you have the router set to dhcp, if not you will hve to defined the ip address.

If all fhese are not the issue. Suggest you sit next the router, as the Extreme can be tempermental first connection.

So your lynksys router is using WEP but your tablet is using WPA?

They need to be using the same authentication method, as WPA2 has yet to be breached I'd go for that and do away with WEP which can be easily sniffed and breached.

I have found my scroll extreme does not like the wifi I have if the channel is set above 10. I had to reset the channel number to 2 and I have no problems connecting since then

Why use 2 - the normal arrangement is 1, 6 or 11. Channel 2 bandwidth overlaps with APs using 1 or 6. Could the problem previously have been more than one AP on the channel you had chosen ? A site survey is a good idea to see which is the clearest channel before just picking one at random. I find Wi-Fi Analyser does a good job in this respect.
