Well as a test on my Excel running 4.0.4 i downloaded the BBC Iplayer app from the Play Store and it is an actual app, no re-directs to the browser, so im now 99% sure its due to the difference in screen size.

Nice one Suggsy - great to know why there is so much difference using the same app on two different tablets.
@ Minijay - sorry I couldn't help you but Suggsy realy is the man who can. Shame for you but roll on HTML5 they keep promising.

I couldnt find anything in the .xmls that was related to the screen size... there maybe something in the .smali files but theres loads to look through

hi Guys

i had ago at upgrading back to 4.0.4 beta 8 as the benifits of 4.0.3 wernt all that...

im a little confused as i now have the playstore icon in apps and my home screen again. i thought hey lets give it a try and put iplayer on..... ok it still redirects but it seems to work... i changed the screen size and it seems to deal with it... only tried one video so it may just be pure fluke but better than i was getting before.... i put itv player on and this is still hit and miss but seems ok when it does work...

did you make any changes suggsy

ive decided to take a backup through CWM just incase i break it later at least i know i can go back to a working version.

another plus for the 4.0.4 version is that the volume keys work in the players where they didnt in 4.0.3 which wasnt a show stopper but a tad annoying when you try to keep the volume down whilst messing with the tab at work when i should really be doing other stuff less fun

thanks very much trashcooky for all your help it really is appreciated and suggsy you are a god amongst men. keep up the good work... if there is anything i can help with give me a shout, im in no way as good as you but if there is anything more basic you need to pass off i would be happy to lend a hand.

@minijay - glad you are moving forward with this on your Extreme - I shall be trying out Suggsy's unoficial 4.0.4 for the Excel, hopefully in a day or two - so when I do I will play with it and then report back. From what you are saying for the 4.0.4's performance on the Extreme, I think I am going to be quite happy with it on the Excel thankyou.

Incidentally, I myself found the volume keys a bit unresponsive too on 4.0.3 but they did work. Didn't matter too much anyway as MX player amd Mobo player both have volume control by sliding your thumb up or down on the right hand side of the screen and brightness on the left. I use these quite a lot as I watch films in bed. Science Fiction mostly - just in case you were wondering.

i have just upgraded to 4.0.4 rc1 so lets see how that goes so far experiences with the usual players seem about the same itv player maybe slightly better unless you resize it but again i think thats a result of the screen size, but this is for the other topic so to keep things on track i shall post findings over there http://scrolltabletforum.co.uk/site/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=2548

so i think as 4.0.4 has most of the same issues as 4.0.3 (for me that is) i shall leave it on the latest build and update as suggsy brings newer versions out.

thanks again for all your help - i have now got the same players as you so i can watch films.. this is really all i need as well as to be able to work on the thing i guess

now just to convert some movies to be able to play on it..
