Cannot remove Clockworkmod Recovery

Postby nick » May 29th, 2012, 8:38 pm

Why do people say that you can go back to stock rom after installing CWM Recovery?
You can go back 'almost stock rom' but you will still have CWM Recovery on the tablet instead of the stock recovery.

If you have a warranty claim Storage Options will just put the tablet in recovery mode and then they will say that you have been flashing it with unofficial roms, therefore invalidating the warranty.

Isn't there a way to backup the stock rom without installing CWM Recovery?

Unfortunately, I found out too late...

Are you saying that Storage Options have said your warranty is invalid.

I would liken to see the T&Cs that say you cant install s/w on your tablet, as that is all you do by installing CWM. You are installing s/w in order to make a backup.

SO dont give a warranty on the ROM, but on the h/w. If you have a fault on the tablet, and the stock rom is installed to prove the tablet is faulty, then so what if CWM is installed. It is like saying, yu installed Angry Birds and that has made your tablet fail, so is not covered by warranty.

Kevin

Of course there is a way... Im only talking about the Extreme here...

To backup the "Stock Rom" without CWM you can use the linux "dd" command to dump the firmware into blocks of images (file type .img) These "blocks" represent the NAND partitions of the OS.

We can then either "dd" or "cat" them back aswell.

If you wish to get back to stock recovery you would need to flash # NAND Block G # This is the recovery.

Im sure i can make a CWM zip for flashing the stock recovery.

No, I haven't got a warranty claim, but I can see that they could use CWM Recovery as an excuse not to repiar a device for free.

I just think it would be responsible for people advocating installing CWM Recovery to point out that it cannot be removed.

If Storage Options made the stock rom available then maybe it could be flashed back to full factory condition with LiveSuit.

Thanks for your reply Suggsy,

It would be great if it were possible to return to stock recovery... you could try out custom roms and nobody would ever know ;)

Thanks Suggsy! :)

The reason I started this thread is because I did a search on the web and I couldn't find anything that said CWM Rec could be removed, if fact all I could find was people saying it couldn't.

My bad if Suggys little bit of magic works :)
