Hi suggsy89 thanks for replying to my enquiry, I have to say first off I'm brand new at this tablet stuff so if I appear to come across as a bit dim it's because I'm brand new just out of the wrapper. I don't exactly know where to find out if I have an Allwinner A10 proccessor on my tablet, but I have managed to get this information somehow which I hope will help.
Android ver. 2.3.4.
Basebrand ver v1.6
Kernal ver 2.6.36- androidscroll@scoll
Proccessor arm v7 rev 2(v71)1200.0mhz

I only bought this tablet just over 4 weeks ago from Maplins and the day it arrived to my address the ICS version came out which was a bit of a bummer, but a friend who recomended the tablet told me that I would be able to update it ok as I had the latest Gingerbread version, I don't know if this is true or not. I'll await your response, as I know from reading & trying to understand previous posts, that you are very knowledgeable with computers.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

ARMv7 means that you are using the Allwinner chip. The 4.0.4. ROM made by suggsy89 should work without any problems - happy flashing.

ARMv7 does not guarantee that it's an Allwinner - The Scroll Essential 4 might have an Allwinner A1x but this can not be confirmed by the reference to ARMv7 alone, as other manufactures use the ARM architecture too.

Oh quite right Charlie, sorry. I thought that considering it said armv7 + 1200Mhz....that it was the Allwinner version. Also my Essential showed the exact same information and from what i've read the telechip version shows as 1Ghz.

How much RAM do you have? The Telechips comes with 256, mine has 512.
