Disappointed

Postby kajacro » June 9th, 2012, 5:15 pm

I have to say I'm really disappointed that I haven't received any reply to my cry for help in flashing a new rom for my extreme.
I have now spent hours on it. I have tried everything I can find out from trawling the internet. I just can't re-boot into recovery in cwm ... just the stock android recovery each time. I have CWM v5 and it only seems happy with x2 and x3. I 've pasted the new recovery image into various cwm folders but it never finds it. I tried Piers instructions to do it from my pc but my device is never found. I tried it on a terminal app but that doesn't seem to work either. I know it's asking a lot but I'm hoping that someone out there can write a 1, 2, 3 guide I can follow.
I'm really keen. Please help!!

You can do it the SDK way and that is the correct way, but I couldn't get it to work. This is the way I did it:

Installing CWM on the Scroll Extreme
1) Uninstall USB drivers you are using
2) Install USB drivers from this zip: http://upld.eu/droid/livesuit.zip
3) Connect your Extreme and enable debugging (should be enabled by default)
4) Download https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=047eeec6 ... BF08%21562
5) Run CWM Recovery Script Scroll Extreme_TEST.bat from the RAR
6) Select option 1 and wait, it may take up to 2 hours to work - it did on my Extreme
7) Once it's completed it will tell you - you can now select option 2 (reboot)
8) CWM should now be installed
9) Verify by holding the left volume key + power button for around 10 seconds, it will then boot up into CWM

Note: You can backup your existing ROM, however I think suggsy has a backup somewhere - I didn't bother.

Flashing using CWM on the Scroll Extreme
1) Connect the USB cable to your Extreme
2) Select 'File Storage Mode' on your tablet
3) Copy one of the .zip files to your devices internal memory card (or external)
4) Turn off your Extreme
5) HOLD DOWN the left volume key + power button for around 10 seconds, it will then boot up into CWM
6) (Volume keys = up/down, back = back and power = select) Select 'Factory reset/format'
7) Once that is completed you can choose the option to select a ROM and follow the on screen instructions.

I am quoting Piers post above because its the perfect/easist way to get cwm on your tablet
pay special attention to step 3 - debugging when connected to usb must be enabled! - this is in the developers option in the settings menu

If you say your tablet is not being found by the pc then this may be a physical/hardware problem - be sure that the usb cable is pushed in far enough (myself & others have had problems regarding the physical connection of usb/hdmi leads on some tablets as the connection seem to be too far inside the tablet casing to get a reliable connection - I trimmed the end black casing by2-3mm on the usb & hdmi cables to get around this)
the cable need to be in the standard usb port (NOT the host one)
just as a test if thi ia still not working, turn off the debugging option & connect the tablet to pc - is it discovered - it should become available as a mass storage device - if not then the problem is tablet/hardware related)

dont mean any of the above to sound condescending at all m8 (just my way of wording things - trying to be concise as possible)

If your device isn't being recognised by your PC, check in device manager and see if there are any devices with a yellow exclamation mark. If so then the chances are that you have not got the correct usb drivers for your device.
Also (forgive me if this sounds patronising) but have you got USB debugging turned on (ticked) in system/development tools.
Hope this may help a little - if you can't find suitable usb drivers you are stuck.
There have been several versions posted on here but it is difficult to find them all.
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!

pdanet was the only USB driver that would work for me.

Best of luck.

Thanks all who have responded. My faith is restored.
I have been trying Piers's instructions again tonight. My problem I think has been getting the usb drivers installed. I think I've done that now, using PDA Net (thanks for that) (I have a device number anyway). However, when I run the CWM batch file I get "adb is not recognised as an internal or external command." Digging around tells me that the adb.exe file has been moved, maybe since the batch was written - there's a text note in the tools folder to that effect. I tried my own cmd prompt with the correct (?) path to abd.exe, but no luck.
So, back to the drawing board I guess.

Piers your instructions are very clear, just what a noob needs :)! The sky drive link seems not to work any more btw, although I had downloaded the contents prior to today.
However I seem to be no closer. Becoming obsessed!!!

Looks like Suggsy89 has removed access to the download, I would post the file elsewhere but I got in trouble for that before. It's up to Suggsy.
