screen capture on extreme?

Postby robbie1985 » April 24th, 2012, 5:20 pm

I tried searching the forum for this but no luck. according to most sources any device running ICS should be able to perform native screen capture by pressing the volume down button at the same time as the power button. however this does not appear to do the trick on my extreme. I've tried any combination of buttons I can think of but no joy. any ideas?

On the Excel it works by pressing the power button slightly before the vol-down. It needs to be circa 1/2 second before pressing the vol-down, then holding until you hear the OS 'click' and see the zoomed down 'grab'. It won't grab screens from the ICS media player, paused or moving. It saves black pngs instead. The pngs can't be rotated in ICS editor, so if you grab a screen in portrait, it will always be displayed in landscape.

ICS 'Gallery' on the Excel has the same AR fault as the ICS media player and doesn't appear to have a workaround. If want to check the AR use the Excel/Extreme camera to snap something circular, like a clock face, then view it and rotate the view. If it still looks circular the AR is ok, if it looks elliptical the AR is wrong. Is the AR ok on the Extreme gallery?

Hi robbie,

I've just flashed the new cm9 rom from slatedroid (see first post in general discussions) and noticed that when you power down the tablet by holding in the power button you get a list of options and one of them is screen grab. I know this don't gelp if your on stock firmware but if you really need it then you now have options :)

Edit-------- when i said new i really meant the 2012.6.07 version which has just been superceded today

You can definately take screenshots as I have one. Only problem is I don't know if that was with stock or suggy's rom. If I were a betting man I would say stock, and I would also bet it is a Menu/Vol + pwr combo, can't get it to do it again at the moment, I'll keep trying.

As the Scroll Extreme has Root permissions out of the box, you could install one of the many Screen Capture Apps from Play Store. I use Screenshot, it works well and is much easier... ;)

+1 that's just what I was going to say - have a look at some here https://play.google.com/store/search?q=screen+capture I also have used Screen Capture on my Excel which won't ICS capture on Suggsy's rom.
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!
