Root and USB Drivers

Just an off the wall comment. You mention you may buy several of these tablets for a project.
You should be aware that Storage Options has a habit of releasing different builds of what seems at face value to be the same model with the same name. Sometimes this is not simply a build difference in the software but can involve a significant change to the hardware too. Just gentle advice to try and buy all your tablets alltogether from the same source as things change so quickly that I would rather bet money on you getting a bunch that aren't all absolutely identical as I would to betting they are all absolutely the same, unless you move quickly and use the same source

I suppose consistency is not such an issue for this. I will need 10 tablets to play an audio sample at a certain time once a day over a 6 week period and they will be bolted to lamp posts and buildings. Just need reliability! I may get lucky and get 10 with better hardware.


The problem I have now is that the laptop I am using when working on the app from home runs windows xp and I can't find USB drivers that work. With windows 7 you can force it to use a driver even if it doesn't like them (my HTC drivers worked) but xp is more picky. Anyone have any suggestions?

Are you looking for XP drivers for the ADB interface or just to connect to the tablet as USB storage ? The latter should be straightforward but if the Elite is anything like the Extreme I had to do a lot of digging to get drivers that worked for me - have a look at viewtopic.php?f=57&t=2545&start=10#p22775 for what I eventually got to work.

Glad to be of help - it's an unfortunate side effect of the Forum being divided up the way it is that it's easy to overlook the fact that the Extreme and the Elite are so similar that solutions for one model can equally apply to the other. The same may apply to other models as well.

A valid point indeed but unfortunately it is very difficult to keep all relevant information in one place - as things change so quickly. In this instance (Extreme & Elite) it is simply like two ships passing in the night. It goes to show how useful it is to have people like your good self popping the relavent links in their posts in order to help others. Thank you

They will be placed around the city playing an audio sample once a day for 6 weeks through a very big nasty sounding horn. If I lived near one of the sites I would go on holiday. I have planned a few spares to allow for drunk people with ladders and tools stealing them. They will email me if the power is disconnected but I will probably be asleep.
