I have a rom dated @ mid May which is a CWM backup and I'm sure it is the stock rom plus some google play items lol. Although I don't think I can host a 930Mb file anywhere without paying for the service??? If anyone can suggest anything to help then i would gladly donate my rom to science :)

That's a mighty big backup file you must have installed loads of apps before you backed up.
If you are able to split into 4 parts with each being less than 300Mb then you could use this (unless you already have it?) http://db.tt/4LG5LNIK

Addition: I am wrong! the 300Mb limit is only applicable when using the web uploader - if you use the desktop application then there is no filesize limit.
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!

As I made several CWM Backups of my Stock ROM before I upgraded, but when I decided to restore from them they are useless as CWM complains of an MD5 error, which all I can assume is that something drastic was changed between 4.0.3 and the first of the 4.0.4 builds, as, as well as making several backups of the Stock ROM, I tested them with restores before installing the first of Sugsey's great 4.0.4 builds....

So, although you are correct stating we should make a back up prior to installing a new ROM, I do feel your statement is a little bit patronising...

Het Guys, sorry if you thought you were being got at - far from it - I was just using this situation to reinforce to others how important taking backups is. No offence intended. :)

I was given a link by Tech Support for an Elite ROM (http://www.storageoptions.com/firmware/scroll.elite1.1) that I tried on the extreme, however it slowed everthing down to a crawl!

So I tried this http://www.storageoptions.com/firmware/scroll.extreme1.0 and downloaded a ROM that looks like the stock one.

I have installed it and all looks good to me at the moment...

Hello all.

I guess there are many reasons why backups may not work but I've previously restored my stock firmware without problem. I then tried to restore it again tonight and I got the md5 checksum error.

I had moved the folder 2012-07-27.17.30.29 into a more recognisable folder called 'stock firmware'. Turns out this is why I was getting the md5 checksum error. I have moved it back into its original folder eg...
F:\clockworkmod\backup\2012-07-27.17.30.29
... and the backup let me restore the firmware without any errors.

Just a thought, you might just need to put it back where it used to be if you have moved it in the past.

The first cwm i installed was 5.x.x.x. (something) and I think i was able to restore the firmware from its new folder. But now I am on cwm 6.x.x.x. (something) and this time I had to put it back in its original folder.

Cheers.

Barry.

Tried the folder rename thing but no difference as I didnt change the folder name anyway.

As for the stock Extreme zip, it doesnt work, comes back as bad zip file. I examined it and it doesnt seem complete.

Will try the Excel version but that doesnt really get me back to where I wanted to be to test this time creep.

I don't know enough about the rom differences but is it wise to try the Excel rom on the Extreme...?
At the very least I believe the screen res is completely different - you don't want to end up with a display that you can't even read... Just a thought. ;)
