Looks like it's bricked...

Postby kolonuk » September 25th, 2012, 3:19 pm

Hi All,

Quick intro: I wanted an android tablet after getting my SGS2 last year, and spent £180 on a Scroll Extreme in March. Happy that it came rooted, I immediately found this site and followed with interest Suggsy's custom 4.0.4 ROM, took the plunge and installed the RC1. That was fine for a few months, but I wanted more, so came back and found that Suggsy had stopped work in favour of a Cyanogenmod verison. Read up on that, and again took the plunge about 2 months ago and installed that, never been happier! Until now...

The problem:
For some reason, after I left it off charge for the weekend, the battery went flat, and now, all I get is a black screen with the back light, and nothing else. :x I get no sound, no flickering, no battery indicator when charging, nothing. I have charged it up over night, nothing. I have tried to get into the CWM recovery, nothing. I don't even get anything in Windows or Linux when I plug it in (though it does look like it's charging as the screen comes on (no battery charging icon/logo though)...).

I don't have kids, so can't blame them! It has been in almost constant use though, so I'm debating whether to open it up and check if something has come loose inside from the gentle-ish knocks and scrapes(no rattling sounds...)

Does anyone have any ideas? If not, who wants to see inside?!! :D

I admire your gumption to look inside which now seems perhaps a necessary shame as you seem to know what to do to fix it and you have covered most of the steps that would be given as advice (unless someone has something else to offer).
Have you firstly considered asking Storage Options to replace it within warranty?

If you do open it up, then yes please do take some photo's or a video.
I have an Excel which has been opened and you will need to be very careful you don't break any leads or ribbon strips when you gingerly split the case. I have no idea how the Extreme is assembled but I am sure they will all be much of a muchness = high risk. There are some video's on Youtube which show other tablets being stripped open and none of them look easy and are fraught with risk of damage so a steady hand and a good eye will be needed.

Good luck and please post the pics even if your venture ends in failure.
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!
