So I took the plunge, I followed Trashcooky's instructions, however, cwm on my excel wouldn't let me boot into recovery, instead it just kept rebooting into JB. So I just installed the CM10, wiped cache, dalvik, battery stats, flashed mom9 then flashed the Gapps.
This let me install JB , however i've got to say after two days of messing about with it am going back to the custom iview ICS 407 I had before.
It just seems way too slow (browsing, opening apps and general navigation) and i've just noticed that it doesn't even show the emoticons on tatpatalk, instead they're just black boxes.

I am not sure if this might be due to the need to have at least a 300Mb system partition which (natively) the Excel does not have. I have discovered that my tablet slowed down when I started to install more apps but I still had plenty of sdcard0 space left - but system partition shows 264 Mb used and only 4Kb free. I suspect this is causing the poor performance you experienced especially if your tablet is heavily laden with apps. You will see in the preceding post bottom of previous page, that I have asked Suggsy89 to Please come to our rescue, as I believe this is worth pursuing.

However, if this can't be done then I too may ultimately return to the trusted Suggsy89's 4.0.4 ICS (Samsung GT i9100 ) which does seem to be compatible with a lot more apps than the JB Nexus7 spoof. Even ITV player is showed as incompatible on Google play with JB, however I have sideloaded it and the re-install seems to have cleared up the flakiness I was experiencing on the JB O.S.
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!

What fun it is flashing Roms I managed 4 in an hour tonight and I have learned quite a bit about the system partion.

As I posted above - on JB I get 264 Mb in use with 4Kb free.
On ICS 4.0.3 I get 278 Mb used with 18.9 Mb free.
On GB 2.3.4 I get 297 Mb used with a whopping 159 Mb free.

So currently I am back on GB 2.3.4 and I am going to see what it takes to stall the tablet in a similar way that JB does when I try to have 45/50 apps installed.

It seems very strange having to learn GB again - lol.

I think you might be right and it's slow because of the 300MB system partition. However, when I installed it I did a factory/data reset so it was clean and still incredibly slow and unresponsive.
I'll wait until Suggsy89 drops his version :D .
For now am going back to the Iview ICS Rom, seems to be the only one that seems to give me good all round performance.
Oh and I forgot to add in my original post Samurai Vengance and Shadowgun refused to work.

Using the damaged Scroll Excel

After some fiddling:
possibly from "Update Me" under Misc I enabled "Ad Blocker" - after reboot the browser no longer opens
So I've downloaded Dolphin and Opera

also
Disabling "Show dock divider" causes Trebuchet to stop working.

When using 2.3.4 and Go Launcher, the status bar could be hidden.

But with 4.1.1 the Go Launcher doesn't hide it even though there is an option in the menu.

I have certainly had a good old fiddle tonight from JB to GB and now back to the very stable and as yet unbeatable Suggsy89's 4.0.4 ICS.

There are elements of each O.S. that I like and it would be great if they were all merged.
As an old man with not too good eyesight, I like the fonts size and browser display on G.B. 2.3.4 but this O.S. just can't handle BBCi player or more importantly for me, TV catchup.

Jelly Bean looks flash and I like the interfaces much more than either G.B. or I.C.S and the extras that Cyanogen gives it - but as a spoofed Nexus 7 it isn't 'Play' compatible with many (allwinner compatible) apps that will actually run on it and there are many ICS apps that simply won't run at all on J.B.

I even tried CM9 tonight which was so - so and when 'update me' noitified me there was a new rom, I flashed it and bricked the tablet again. I think I have temporarily bricked it at least 3 times tonight and each time, I restore it with good old faithful Suggsy89's 4.0.3 ICS as this has CWM built in.

Finally, I have now restored back to 4.0.4 thanks to Suggsy89's update zip wich gives the Excel a Samsung GT i1900 fingerprint. This definitely gives me access to more compatible apps than J.B. does and I can load plenty of them on to the tablet with the only price paid being a boringly long boot time. (this encourages me to thin them out occasionally.)

Finally, I think the best app I have installed is definitely Titanium backup, because I backed up the tablet to my external SD card when I had an enormous amount off apps installed and now I can so easily choose to swap various apps in and out of installation at will and still keep the tablet lean but have all my favourite apps on hand a few taps away.

So in summary, I do like J.B. a lot, but not on a humble Excel as it currently is in CM10 (this is now the final CM10 no more updates)
I suspect it may run much sweeter on the later Excels that shipped with ICS and 8 Gig storage and with 512 ram.
But I have definitely come to the conclusion that the custom ICS 4.0.4 that Suggsy89 put together is still king on the Humble first edition Excel .

EDIT
Previously in other threads I had stated that the USB host would not work on my Excel and I thought it was broken in the ROM, however I was wrong as I am pleased to say that since re-installing Suggsy89's 4.0.4 everything is working again just Dandy.
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!

I did the same but it looks like a very good find.
I viewed it for download here: https://play.google.com/store/search?q=boot+manager and Google play didn't say it is incompatible (currently spoofed as a Samsung GT i9100) so I might give it a try. Nice find.

yeh, runs sluggishly, a little worse than ICS but i found that to be rather slow a lot of the time anyway.

i wonder if it can be tweaked by suggsy as he has shown his abilities in regards to these little tablets being transformed before.
