That did it! It was either because the charger was plugged in before or I wasn't tapping the power button fast enough. Thanks for pointing out that video.
Turned it on after flashing, I have the Cyanogenmod 9 flashy angry robot thingy going, how long is that supposed to show for?
Edit: Never mind, I can read along the rest of the post now :)

I just got whatever was on the first post. I have no idea what either of those are.
It seems to be working fine, except the external card is showing as internal (and the actual internal is showing as 1GB instead of 8GB). Now, this would be fine, except that a lot of apps are no longer running because they're looking for an external card. Any thoughts? No biggie if I can't fix, I mainly just use the web browser anyway (if ever).

To the best of my Knowledge (CM9) Cyamogen Mod 9 is Ice Cream Sandwich whereas what most folk are falling over themselves to get is (CM10) Cyanogen Mod 10 which is Jellybean.

Keep an eye on the system partition warnings from Christian Troy about needing at least 300Mb if you want to install gapps.

Again, I just got what is on the original post. It shows as CM9 (specifically 10-20120811-UNOFFICIAL-907) and Android shows as 4.1.1.

I don't know what gapps is, so I'm assuming I don't want it.

I fixed the apps complaining about the external card by following your post on another thread for the Excel: viewtopic.php?f=48&t=3110&p=24938&hilit=external#p24938

Although it still shows the storage as internal, the apps no longer complain about it and load correctly. Thanks!

My install was also showing the CM9 boot animation, I also agree it was JB so I change the animation to the Cyanogem Mod revoling circle.

Can you see you 8gb internal card? If not see my thread below I had the 'nandi' block missing.

Nah it shows as 1GB, but again this is fine for my needs. I won't be installing more than half a dozen apps or so and will mostly be streaming stuff from NAS.

Gapps stands for Google apps and many of them are needed by the system, particularly for allowing Playstore to work.
If you have used the cut-down version of Gapps that your link pointed to on my Excel thread then you won't have everything so may find some Google reliant services may not work properly or at all. Time will tell but it seems you have got the essentials and saved a bit of system space.

Not sure what apps, if any are missing.

So far just got ES File Explorer and MX Player and they're both working.

It also had Google Mail pre-installed which appears to be working without any action on my part. Scared me to death when the message alert went off at full volume out of nowhere!
