asjones wrote:This is an excellent update. The excel now runs far more smoothly and video sync issues are much less noticeable. I've got an issue with a new USB keyboard not working though, anyone else seen anything similar?

Keyboard is this one:

It has a mini usb plug and when plugged in the lights come on - e.g. caps lock, but hitting keys does nothing except wake up the table when it dims after inactivity. Unfortunately I only bought the keyboard after going to 4.04 so i don't know if it worked on the stock GB version.

I have found that I cannot host any devices on Suggsy's 4.0.4 but I can slave OK - so I suspect your keyboard is OK as I also have one and it worked fine on 2.3.4 but not on this ROM. Hopefully a bit more development may sort it out although Suggsy seems to be thinking about CM9 - anybody running this (cm9) on the Excel care to leave any performance comments?

i just found this thread after posting in 4.0.3 thread.

i deduced from the cwm zip that i should be able to flash this 4.0.4 from within cwm recovery but when i went into cwm recovery and tried to install zip from sd, it wasnt found.

am i missing something guys?

thanks again.

sounds good doesn't it. cant wait.

with the cwm zip file method now it is so easy to just try anything quite quickly as well, just have to do nandroid backup and give it a whirl.

Hey guys.
I just running through a few things with my Excel before my Granddaughter gets her hands on it :-)
Has anyone noticed a problem with YouTube screen rotation. I tested the latest YouTube, and the YouTube mobile site.
When holding the Excel in portrait the video is still sideways amongst other things.
Lastly, and if anyone has a copy of Suggsy's older firmware with the frame rate fix on the camera I would greatly appreciate it.
It will save me getting a earful when my little darling uses the camera :-)

On my Excel running Suggsy89's last 4.0.4 upgrade I find that YouTube menu pages do rotate on switching the tablet plane from landscape to portrait but the videos all seem to lock in landscape. As far as I can remember it was like this even on GB.

Not sure about an older version of ICS from Suggsy89 as I thought that his 4.0.4 update zip solved all the earlier issues and also spoofs the tablet as a Samsung Galaxy i9100 to get more apps.
What problems exactly are occurring with the camera?
Mine seems to be working fine on 4.0.4 considering it is only a Christmas cracker camera in the first place. I have full set of tools controlling zoom, white balance, choice of 5 settings and -4 to +4 exposure settings also a choice of VGA or 1.3 Mp. The pictures I can take of my ugly mug are as good as I would ever expect from such a low speck imaging device.

Sorry for the delay its been one of them days.
Ignoring the YouTube site. I never noticed problems with older versions of the app. So I may have a look to see of I have an older version somewhere.
As for the Camera, the frame rate is rather low.
I recall this as being a problem way back when we upgraded from gb to ics.
Suggsy and I was talking about this ages back, and he gave me a firmware to test that made the camera as good as it was on gb.
In other words, the quality would have never set the world on fire but it was smooth.
A lot of the functions didn't work but the high frame rate was a great compromise..
Unfortunately. Since my hard disk going belly up, I lost the bloody thing. I know I should have used Dropbox :-)

Come to think of it. I might just leave 4.0.4 on there tbh :-)
It does seem a lot more stable than 4.0.3.
I will just search my various cloud accounts for the older YouTube that if I recall, worked properly. Thanks for your time Trashcooky :-)
