I know there have been a massive number of posts on this topic over the last year. But please this is slightly different. Please would you suggest what the best written tutorial to guide through a reliable ICS install on the original Excel. I'm not after the very latest build - the bleeding edge! I'm after a stable build, well tested, that supports the most of the Excel's hardware and with an install guide written is such a way that a competent IT person with no under-the-hood Android experience can follow. Maybe even how to install the S.O. rom for the latest Excel?
Many thanks to all who respond.

Hi Jonathon, as you say there has been an awful lot written about this and the main reason for that is because an Excel is not an Excel is not an Excel. Unfortunately throughout their availability run Storage Options changed the specifications quite a few times which has led to there being many versions of the Scroll Excel.
Regarding the possibility of flashing Storage Options stock rom for ICS - keep dreaming...... SO will not give out hardly any rom support at all.
If you don't like the suggestion below then I can give you links to a stock 4.0.3 ICS rom for the iview or if you don't want that I have a copy of the stock ICS 4.03 for the Tablo.
If your Excel spec is as follows:
Allwinner A10 processor
512M memory
4G DDR2 ram storage
O.S. Gingerbread 2.3.4
HDMI port
mini usb port
Battery 3,400 MaH
Then you can
almost certainly flash Suggsy89's ICS 4.0.3 ROM and then if you wish follow that up with Suggsy89's update zip to ICS 4.0.4 ROM.
The first action requires use of Livesuite and the second action requires use of Clockwork Mod.
If you think doing this is hard to follow now.... then you should have tried to find the information on how-to when I first joined the forum in November 2011. I have tried to correct that situation by creating a section named Android Novices here:
viewtopic.php?f=20&t=2757You should find everything you need to know in this section and the ROMS you may want to flash here:
viewtopic.php?f=48&t=3012&p=24501#p24501I fully understand your wish for a step by step hand holding guide to getting this done but wherever you seek this kind of information you will almost always certainly be told this about using LIvesuite:

If you do want to have a go and you are still unsure then watch this video:
