Deleting unwanted garbage

Postby dustytyke » December 11th, 2012, 7:21 pm

Accidentally, through just exploring, I've discovered that on my Scroll Extreme, under File Manager, then clicking on the icon that looks like a thumbnail landscape, I'm presented with a long array of thumbnail images of such things as the covers of all the books I've looked at in Kindle, imported images, logos and icons, and all kinds of other images (mostly in .jpg or .png format). These have obviously accumulated, unknown to me, since I've had the tablet and must be taking up memory space. How do I get rid of them ? There seems to be no obvious way of clearing these out. Were this a Windows system, there would be a 'Select All' and 'Delete' button but Android tablets seem to delight in keeping the user guessing and giving no clues; there is no intuitive way of dealing with something like this. What do I do to get rid of all this garbage ?

Hi,

If you are talking about the "File Manager" I think you are you - Just "long press" on the item you want to delete and then a box pops up and you select "Delete File", as for bulk deletion I don't think you can in "File Manager" - but in other file explorers you can, I use a paid app "Root Explorer" that can I think the free "ES-Explorer" can bulk delete too.

EDIT - UPDATE
Sorry, just tested and images under the icon similar to a "thumbnail landscape" - the above does not work in "File Manager" - Try using "ES-Explorer" instead.

I've tried that and nothing happens. Under File Manager ,there is a line of icons across the top of the page. One of them is a sort of thumbnail of a landscape (a couple of mountains and a sun); these troublesome bits are all stored under this. Long pressing on the items in this category has no effect whatsoever. What you suggest does work under, for example, the sd icon - but not under the one I'm talking about. Thanks for your response, anyway. Obviously there has to be something else that one has to do.

Hi Dusty,
The icon you describe sounds rather like the Gallery icon. Does what you see here correspond to image in Gallery app? I don't see that icon in File Manager on my Android. Also I normally use a third party file manager on the rare occasions that I do want a file manager.
