Messed up Scroll Basic Plus v2

Postby hughie » January 14th, 2013, 6:20 pm

Hi,

Any help/advise would be much appreciated as I've messed up my Scroll Basic Plus v2 after changing the dpi (with “resolution change / Density” app) in my efforts to get the Chrome browser to work.

It loads up fine but when I get to the locked screen I receive the first pop-up message “unfortunately, System UI has stopped” I clear this by clicking the OK button that accompanies the message , once I've unlocked the screen I just get the wallpaper with non-stop pop-up message “unfortunately, Launcher has stopped”.

Was hoping that a reset will fix my problem but no luck so far as I’m unable to get the Android Man & menu as mentioned in the instruction of which is supplied on Storage’s FAQ page:

Q. How do I reset my Basic Plus v2 tablet
A. Press and hold the Power and Volume down button for 10 seconds, release, wait a further 5 seconds, the Android Man should appear, press the volume down button for the reset menu

Some options in blue text will appear at the top of the screen. Release the Home button. Press Volume – repeatedly to highlight “wipe data” and press Menu to select the option.

Repeatedly press Volume – to highlight “Yes -- delete all user data” and press Menu to select.
When formatting is complete, you will be returned to the main menu. Press Volume – repeatedly to highlight “factory reset” and press Menu to select.

When “factory reset finished” is shown on screen, you can highlight “reboot system now” in the same manner, then press Menu to select. After a few seconds Scroll Basic Plus will reboot.

Is there a specific state (on, off or locked screen) the tablet needs to be in to attempt a physical reset ?

Thanks.

The instructions you found require the tablet to be in the turned off state first of all and then hold down the Volume + then the power button.
Usually I don't let go of either until I see the recovery screen.
If Volume + and power won't work try menu then power and hold both down until it boots into recovery mode.
I expect you realise that a factory reset will remove all your apps.
Good luck.
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!

Thanks for the response, tried the factory reset again with the tablet turned off and then holding Volume + & Power (I've also tried Volume - ) but nothing happens  , a blue light does appear from within the casing which is visible through the microSD slot and stays on until the tablet is turned back on in the normal manner but to do so it needs me to press the reset button (pin hole) on the back.

The instructions on the Storage’s FAQ page is slightly confusing due to the Basic Plus v.2 (No.55509) only having two buttons (power & volume up/down) paragraphs 2-4 are the same giving to the v.1 which had an additional button on the face.

I’ll carry on trying the reset procedures but I'm also thinking if it’s worth opening up the tablet, might be something inside that could trigger a reset.

Unless you are very careful and confident, taking your tablet apart could be the end of it.
I can understand you feeling that there is nothing to lose but regarding your problem description I consider it highly unlikely you will resolve it by opening up the tablet. Unfortunately from your description I have no idea how you may resolve it. Perhaps someone else can come to your rescue. At this stage I can only wish you good luck but please keep us posted on how you get on.

Currently waiting for a response to a service request I submitted last Wednesday, just in case there's another solution and also asked if the factory reset has been tried and tested on the Basic Plus v.2 (model No.55509).

Good luck with that, unfortunately SO are not known for their helpfulness, rather the opposite I'm afraid.
