scroll 51951 power issue please help

Postby moses55 » August 21st, 2013, 12:33 pm

hi all I have a scroll special edition 8" 51951.. when I press power button I get "scroll welcome screen" then it goes blank and off.. I cannot flash new firmware as I cannot even get into recovery mode.(vol + and power)
its definatly not the battery as sometimes it will boot up with power lead in then inserting usb cable once on the "scroll welcome screen" and battery power is 100% . (will only boot up like this when it feels like).
also once booted is absolutely fine , but then once turned off I get the same issue.
please could somebody help me flash new firmware through "USB"
I think I have correct drivers installed on pc as it shows up as android device in " device manager".

not sure if its an actual power issue or firmware issue.
please any help appreciated, thanks.

Hi moses55, This link is for the original firmware for your tablet as released by Storage Options. However, I urge caution as some members who have tried this firmware have reported bricking their tablet - even when they download the firmware direct from the Storage Options site. If you are more adventurous you might want to try one of the many roms offred by XDA developers
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!

hi trashcooky, thanks for the reply..maybe that's what has happened, I updated to latest firmware but it worked fine a few days then my issue started..do you think it could be bricked going by my issues?
if so do you know of tutorial to unbrick.
and also most important, do you know of a tutorial to flash rom via usb for this model? thanks.

The fact that your tablet occasionally works OK doesn't sound like the firmware is so screwed up that the the tablet is bricked.
The term bricked usually means that virtually nothing can be done to the tablet to restore it.

Regarding tutorials for flashing roms, if you don't know what you are doing this can be the path of doom.
Each model tablet and with Storage Options tablets even later versions of the same model tablet usually require different methods and 3rd party software in order to flash new firmware.

As far as I am aware the Scroll 51951 comes with this spec: 800MHz ARM 11 (Telechips) processor, 256MB DDR RAM, 8GB internal memory (expandable to 32GB via a micro SD card) and an 800x600 resolution screen.

I have never had one of these tablets so I know very little about flashing them however, if you feel brave and don't mind doing some reading you can begin here but you will need to find a rom suited specifically for your device otherwise you will end up with a true brick.
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!

As I said - I have no particular experience with your model Scroll, all I can tell you is that you must have an image which is fully compatible with your model tablet and I don't know where you will find that unfortunately.

You say your firmware is all in rar format, sometimes all you need to do is simply unzip the file using Winrar if when you do you find just one ISO file inside then this will be the image so you may want to try this to see what you have found.

Remember you do this at your own risk as if you get it wrong I won't be able to help you get it working again as I don't have enough know how. If you are confident you have the correct image for your model tablet then its up to you but you need to remember something important......

Some CPU's can always be accessed directly through the USB connection. This is true for the Cortex A8 Allwinner A10 and A12 chips. What this means is that a tablet with this type of CPU is almost unbrickable as even when it appears dead you can still flash new firmware because the handshake connection between the USB socket and the CPU is always addressable ......provided there are no hardware failures.

Your tablet does not have this type of CPU - yours in an older less sophisticated chip an ARM 11 Telechips CPU which communicates between the CPU and the USB socket using the operating system. This means that whilst the OS is working you can flash another ISO image, but if you flash the wrong image you are highly likely to destroy any OS communication to the USB socket and then you are effectively screwed unless you know all about ADB - SDK and the command line and the android open source project. Even then the chances of reviving a tablet as old as yours is highly debatable.

Good Luck but don't say I didn't warn you. :)
