Help with non booting Scroll v2 51624

Postby cazzyc » September 6th, 2013, 7:31 pm

Hi All,

I would be grateful if anyone could help me with my scroll v2 which is refusing to boot. At the moment it powers on and shows the scroll logo on a white screen and that's it, it doesn't do anything else. I have tried getting to the factory reset menu (power button and volume + button) but that doesn't do anything either.

I have looked at a few posts on here but as I am not that technically minded I'm not sure if they are the right solution, so apologies if this question has already been answered.

Is there anything I can do or is it now a dead tablet?

Thanks in advance,

C

Hi Cazzyc, the Scroll model 51624 is an early resistive screen, Telechips (CPU) based model originally running android Eclair (2.1) and with only 2Gb of ram and just 256 Mb of system memory. By current standards this is unfortunately a poor specification. Storage Options no longer list the firmware for this model on their site however we do host a copy taken from SO's site before they removed it but you would need to be able to enter recovery mode before you could make use of it.

As you say this is usually achieved by holding the power and Volume+ buttons down together until the device enters recovery mode. Sometimes other key combinations work so this may be worth a try...?

If you can enter recovery mode and can put the downloaded zip file onto a micro sd card you may be able to re-install/update the 2.1 firmware using this zip file as is.

Otherwise I suspect you may be looking at updating the entire thing with a new tablet.

Good luck and let us know how you get on. :)

Thanks for your reply Trashcookie,

I had a feeling that I might struggle sorting this as I have had the tablet a while. Im really struggling to get to the recovery menu using the power and volume + buttons. Do you know of any other combination of buttons that might work?

The only other possible combinations are Volume - or menu, I don't know if your model has a hard back key, if so this would be a third possibility. If none of these plus power (held down together from a definite OFF state) don't give you recovery then I don't think I can be of much more help to you unless someone else can come to your rescue.

Make sure you hold down your chosen key i.e. volume + before you also hold down the power key and then don't let go of either for at least 2 minutes. If nothing has happened by that time then I guess your firmware is corrupted.

Thanks Trashcooky,

I've tried various combinations of buttons now and nothing appears to be happening so I think its end for my tablet.

Thanks for your help,
