Arduino on Excel

Postby Hovisbrown » September 17th, 2013, 8:01 am

Hi ,Can anyone help please? I have a Scroll Excel 4 ICS.I am trying to run Arduino Commander or Arduinodroid.
Every thing seems to be installed properly other USB items work(memory stick, keyboard).I power the arduino board separately. The prog will load sketches/compile but will not upload to board!.Both progs say "no device detected".
I have tried a Duomille? and Uno,and selected them on prog settings but no joy. Please can some one help

This is a bit of a long-shot but your post states memory stick and keyboard working OK.....
Both these are slave devices which require use of an OTG lead for connection which tells the Excel they are slaved to it.

When uploading files from the Excel to a PC an OTG lead is not required when using an application such as Android Commander, the PC is simply connected as the primary device with Excel as a slave device.

I may be way of key here but the thought struck me - does the arduino board need to be connected as a slave device or as a host device? as this will dictate which type of usb adaptor connection you need to use between the two devices.
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!

Thanks rply Trashcooky.getting a bit techy for me!!!!!.I try explain,I have downloaded the ArduinoDroid IDE to My Excel. From this point onwards I write my prog commands into the text editor which then compiles(this is the IDE) and sends to the Arduino board ,which is sitting on the Excel USB.I beleive this is then converted by a chip on Ardy
to serial and the progs the processor (Atmega). After all that (which I'm sure you will know!!!!)I am trying to say that the Excel is connected via a 4port USB "splitter" on this one i/p is keyboard, which works .The Arduino is on another which is not recognised!!!.Using only my logic I would say the Arduinois a slave and excel the host ?????.
I am at the moment doing all this on Windows and even I had no trouble setting up so I must be doing something
wrong.
I expect I have totally confused you now but Many thanks for trying

I think we are both confused then as I don't know what you are describing
Clearly though one thing is patent, until the Excel recognises the fact that the arduino is connected to it, communication cannot take place.

Seems to me that is where you problem lies. Can you get the Excel to recognise "device connected" if you only connect the arduino - because until the Excel can see it - it is never going to work.

Another thought crossed my mind have you got USB debugging activated?
If not go to settings/developer options - and put a tick in the box marked USB debugging.
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!
