Scrol Plus 55975 - Start Up Loop

Postby GaryBH » November 5th, 2014, 6:24 pm

This is my first help request in the forum.

I have a Scroll Plus Tablet, Par No. 55975.

A couple of days ago it would not log onto my wifi/broadband system, so I reset the tablet by pushing in the reset hole on the back of the tablet. The tablet started to reboot but after the balloon picture screen closed and the android logo appeared, that's as far as the booting up went. The android logo was continually refreshing but the the boot process would go no further.

I then reset the tablet completely by using the on/off key and + volume key, but this did not solve the problem, I then reset the tablet to factory standard, but again the problem remains.

I am now thinking that the firmware is corrupted somehow.

I assume that I shall need to upload a new version of the firmware to resolve the problem.

Am I correct in my thinking? I am new to tablets so not sure about this. I have lots of experience with software installations and operating systems on windows and Linux machines, but none with tablets.

I cannot locate a firmware for my Scroll 55975 on the SO site. Can anyone direct me to where I can get a copy of the correct firmware? I believe my tablet has Jelly Bean 4.1 originally installed.

If the correct firmware is available, what do I have to do to install it on my Scroll?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Gary

Hi GaryBH ,

I am not sure when the Scroll + 55975 was released by Storage Options but I found a 3* review on Amazon for January 2014 - so I am guessing it is one of their later releases.

As such, you are very unlikely to find original firmware for it unless Storage Options break with their tradition of virtually none existent support and send you a download link . This may be worth a try but I wouldn't hold your breath!

It appears your tablet is based on a 'Boxchip A13' which is a cut-down chip and unfortunately the specification all told is not very good as with only 512Mb of rom this is a very basic tablet. In fact I am surprised Storage Options are still selling tablets at all as "Scroll" is now a dead brand for android tablets.

Your only hope outside of Storage Options is possibly going to be http://forum.xda-developers.com/ who may have firmware suitable for the A13 chip but this will a customised firmware different to what you have been used to seeing when you boot up.

If you have never flashed firmware on an android tablet before then the best advice I can give you is that it is a bit like flashing a bios on a PC, get it wrong and your buggered, Simple as that.

Whilst, it may be educational pursuing firmware for your tablet, to be honest you can buy far superior machines for less than the price of a Scroll tablet. Or if you want to save some money there are usually loads on offer on ebay but do check out specifications before you buy. You should be able to get a 7 or 8 inch quad core tablet with 2Gb rom and at least 16 Gb Ram probably running android KitKat for less than £100.00 if you shop around.

Have a look at this post I put up last year viewtopic.php?f=29&t=3565&p=26839&hilit=tabtronics#p26839 and you will see how cheap tablets are becoming and the rate of improvement is amazing - look at this 8 core tablet: http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and ... up-1226819

Anyway, wish you well but I don't hold out much hope. Keep us posted how you get on. :D

Hi Trashcooky,

Thank you for your reply. I know that the tablet is very basic, but I don't like to let things like this beat me. I have done some trawling around the web and found a few places for info on the chip, and when I receive my USB cable for the tablet I am going to have a go at flashing the tablet. I have nothing to lose really as it doesn't work now, so if I trash it, so be it. It is going to be a few days before I can do it, so will let you know how it turns out. Thanks again for your advice which is very much appreciated.
