I too got the Scroll in part because of its support for the Market. Pretty shoddy reaction from Storage Option. However, I am encouraged by the reaction of people here and the confidence shown that the problem can be sorted out.

Thanks to all.

umm

whats the huge panic about ?

as mentioned theres plenty of devices out there without market access

the market is buggy - not just on this device - on every android device - just do a goggle

developers and users alike are sick of googles lack of interest to sort the market problems out - again do a google and feast your eyes on the number of developers sick and tired of getting nowhere with google despite the issues being present for at least 18 months and are now boycotting the market

the market is not the only source, nor the only way to install apps onto the device

taking all the above into consideration and the fact that a--- 99.9% of the market issues are not with the device or the OS but with google themselves and they either have no interest or no clue of how to resolve them and b---- since theres other ways and sources then whats the point of having a market app on the device when it doesnt work and the developers cant or wont fix it??

Im sorry but the official response from google 18 months on is "errmmm uninstall the market update..and if this doesnt work ummmm errmmmm ummmm clear the cache..... and if that doesnt work ummmmmm ermmmmm do a factory reset...."

****Fridays top tip**** :
if there are problems with any package/programme/device (Windows included) and the developer tells you to "clear the cache" - this is saying "dunno whats up nor what to do but do this and hopefully by the time you report back its not worked someone else will find out how to really fix it"

Meh. As a person on the verge of purchasing a scroll this is very sad news :( An official market is a big requirement for me. I could have put up with a lot of the other issues, but the market issue is a bit of a killer. Seems like I'll be waiting a few months to see what other devices are coming to the UK market.

Sam this shouldn't stop you. Removing the 3 phone apk's, which are not needed as the Scroll has no phone hardware, opens the market up fully and any units already in the stores will not be effected. It's not like they can actually turn off the market for those who have their devices already, just that devices they ship out from now will not be market enabled.

Personally, if I were thinking of getting one, this information would get me moving, not make me think twice.

Surely we can find a way to make the market work? And if not i'm sure scroll developers will make their own market or we can install APK's ourselves.
