I couldn't find a 2.1 image for the emulator, there is a 2.2 image and instructions here: http://www.ehalm.at/avd-2-2-market.php?l=en. It appears to work although it's complaining of low memory! I gave it 256Mb.

Before I did a return to factory settings, I'd bought an app that needed 2.1 and forgot to download it before my market stopped working, the 2.2 image allowed me to download it and it's now safely on my scroll.

It depends if you need it or not.

I have just installed the 2.2 one you mention. I havent had the out of memory error you describe, I gave mine 1GB of memory. Ive now worked how to get apk files from the pc on to it, but havent yet worked out how to get them off.
I wonder if its possible to mount an external sd card into the emulator, ie, if i plug one into a pc usb port it will see it.....

I downloaded the apk files directly from the market onto the emulator, backed them up to the virtual SD card which I created at the same time as the 2.2 Device by turning on the sdcard support as well as giving it a Device ramsize.

You should then be able to see the APK files on the virtual SD card with any file manager. Then I used the ftp software (swiFTP server on the scroll as it couldn't find the ip address of the emulator and the client Andftp on the emulator) to transfer the files. If you are not using a static IP address for your scroll, you may have to change the IP address in the client software each time you want to connect.

"turn on sd card support".... could you elaborate please? i have an "sdcard.img" in one of the sdk folders, does that mean its already enabled?

UPDATE: Scrap that, I think I found it. Thats given me an idea. I read on it that i can choose the img to use, and that as it is an iso file i can put my own files in it (and remove them as well) This may mean there is an easier way to get files from the emulator - ie. use the sd you choose, close the emulator, then open it as an iso file and extract the files. (possibly) Ill have a further look into this shortly

If you want to get the apk files on to your PC, once you've backed up the apk through Astro file manager to your virtual sd card, you can then use astro again to browse to the backed up files, long press on a file and you can send it to yourself via email and download it to your PC that way.

If you want to get it to your scroll, I think ftp is the simplest, it saves some steps. No need to delve into images.

Hello
I am having exactly the same questionning, as for some reason my tablet has no access to paid apps and I want a GPS software that I could buy on the AVD emulator on my PC - buyt would like to mive to my tablet then.
I am surprised there is not much literature about this... but found your thread!
However, it is also not clear for me:
- how to create a virtual SD card on the emulator?
- do i need a FTP or there is a way to mail with Astro? or a simplier way?
Thanks
Agnes

You'll need something like Astro which will backup the apk's to the sdcard. Then how you transfer them is a matter of personal preference. You can transfer to your PC via usb, then transfer to another device again via usb, or you can email it as described above or if you are comfortable using FTP, you can send them directly from one device to another.

Yes - I have done this using wunyaffs.exe to get files and data out from my CWM backup. (it does not work for the boot.img only data.img and system.img, if I remember correctly)
