Hi

New here and to Android tablets.
Yesterday I purchased a Scroll and there was no Android market to be found anywhere, however I installed Android pit and Sam which let me download a few apps. After downloading an app (can't remember which one) I found a link to purchase a full version from the Android market place so clicked on it. To my surprise the Market opened!
Having already installed Android system info I found that I can leave the market running in the background and just click on it in the task manager of ASI.

Hope I am understanding what this thread is about?

Diego wrote:Sam this shouldn't stop you. Removing the 3 phone apk's, which are not needed as the Scroll has no phone hardware, opens the market up fully and any units already in the stores will not be effected. It's not like they can actually turn off the market for those who have their devices already, just that devices they ship out from now will not be market enabled.

Personally, if I were thinking of getting one, this information would get me moving, not make me think twice.

Could you let me know the names and where to find the 3 phone apks to remove. I think I rooted my scroll with z4, however there are still some files I don't have permission to open! The full market used to work now it doesn't. I'm still willing to try all fixes other than a fdr...

I used Android file manager - free from slideme. I'll look for a root permitting file manager, any suggestions?

Just tried this and AndroidPit says the app's not yet available and redirects me to the Market, which looks as though it's working but just hangs forever in 'starting to download'. This applies to most of the decent apps I've found in Apit...

Just got my Scroll from BT, shipped v1.01 with no sign of the Market pre-installed.... pain.... :)
From BT, unmodd'd as yet....

"Some" apps in AndroidPit and SlideME (SAM 4.0 http://slideme.org/) install from their own markets, but I found any of the decent ones redirect to the real market

SlideME allows direct downloads of the .apks from their site
