I have to agree with Kommander. Ive just taken mine to bits and CON1 does indeed look like the base for a usb connector or a daughter board, given the size of the connection pads.

Im going to try and work out the surrounding circuitry there and where I think the bluetooth should be. As for the battery, will be easy to change but im not sure how much bigger I can go, given the space available.

As for the wifi antenna, I have a few ideas that might not need an external one. Going to take it in to work today, have a tweak and take a few measurements. Time to get out the magnifier, hakko and meter methinks.....

Trouble is, bluetooth is going to shorten the crap battery life even more. Having said that, there are possibilities for the battery to be replaced.
One thing ive noticed, where we think the bluetooth goes has definitely (in my case) had some components fitted then removed - not very carefully either!

Mojo: Tomtom's are linux-based too. Do you have any idea what bluetooth chip is used in it?

oooooh the plot thickens! lol

tbh battery life wouldn't be a concern for me, it charges at home and from the work computers, and in the car...i dont seem to ever be very far from electricity lol
as for straight battery replacements, what are the options given the size constraints?

when i get back from work tonight i'll crack it open, i remember taking it apart once before (curiosity  ) it had a standard cell-phone style battery in it, reminded me of an old nokia lol, i haven't used it in months but its held its charge very well lol

I was thinking of stripping the bt module out of my dead (used for experimentation) wii... comes in a nice wee package already to wire into a board... especially if CON1(or COM1, as the printing is non-too clear) turns out to be an additional USB header.

With the battery query, if we can get a voltage and mAh rating for the current one as well as the current dimensions, I can give a ring around my suppliers before the week ends and see what's available at a higher mAh range and maybe one of the newer lithium polymer batteries vs the current (I think) li-on battery that's in there, which would provide as either useful information for replacement batteries (when they finally begin to fail) or alternatively a more hardy alternative.

I know I had an issue with mine the other day, had a "shopping list" on it when I went to BandQ to get some plumbing parts, due to video use the evening before the battery was already low, and in addition to CONSTANTLY reminding me to recharge (need to look into changing that setting!) the battery died at the very last minute when I was double checking the list, so a more beefy battery would be a brilliant addition!

Then again, bluetooth would be useful too, especially for pairing to phones for internet connectivity!

JimmyW, any chance of getting the main board out and flipping it over with some more pics. Be handy to see the silicon with serial's to confirm memory and processor for definite.
