SteroidROM 2.2 Beta 1 Release Thread

Postby djsteve » January 26th, 2011, 3:53 pm

this is a BETA build, its not perfect and not 100% stable yet, you HAVE BEEN WARNED
its finally stable enough for a release folks, had a few minor problems to sort out last night hence the delayed release

first up i want to put out some thanks to people who helped me out getting this sorted
user fun on these very forums for the help getting my own boot.img to actually work and also for the base system im using for this beta build
charlie, jimmyw, fonefixer, detection and everyone else who reflashed their scrolls more times than i can remeber last night to help iron out bugs in the update system
warpedflash for his original post to get me a scroll so i could do this :)

right changelog and bugs/known issues

changelog for BETA 1
using my own custom boot.img and a heavily modified version of funs system.img
/nand is reformatted and mounted as /data in 2.2, this means you LOSE the internal storage partition even if you restore back to 2.1 for the moment (working on that)
performance tweaks

what works:
3d graphics work but are slightly buggy
sound works
video partially works but is very very unstable and buggy
everything else works i think
market IS FULLY working

what doesn work:
accellerometer is totally nuked in this version
device will power off after about 10 mins in sleep mode, still looking into where to fix this
camera doesn work at min

known issues/items to know
first boot is VERY VERY laggy, suggest that even once device boots to the selection screen offering setupwizard/provisioning that you leave it for about 5 mins (just keep tapping somewhere on scree nto stop it powering off) while part of the setup continues in background, once done hit the SetupWizard option to proceed, this will likely be slow and laggy for a bit, once through that the os will speed up somewhat,

remember to backup beforehand :) a wipe IS NOT required before flashing and it is advised you do not wipe due to the 2.1 /data partition holding some info we can use

enjoy folks,

--Original Post below--
ok folks putting this post up early, going to update this post as a sort of live blog on my way to a final 2.2 build :)

first build of this rom is going to be based off user funs cm6 system img but a custom made init.

26/01/11@15:51: modifing boot.img to remove the pointless internal storage mounts and reuse it for android system data

16:00: currently tested features
wifi: works
screen: works
all google apps: check (youtube is dodgy)
3d graphics: working but not perfect
acellerometer: dodgy so far
video playback: unstable

16:01: first boot using /nand as the main data partition, i suspect this may not work, may be too slow to be useful

16:20: ok /nand is tooo slow to do full transplant to /data, working on a hybrid system to test next

16:50: hybrid system crashes constantly also, reverting to original for the moment

17:05: REVERTED, system back to stable, fixing up other things now
17:50: working on tweaks and minor things, accelerometer looks to be busted for the moment
19:55: /nand mounted as data now, may revert again if it causes issues, preparing zip
21:00: zip testing underway, release soon hopefully :D

Makes sense - thats a shame, which also means installing Apps to SDCard will cause long loading times ?
