Thanks for the advice JimmyW. my scroll has now been slimmed and is working well.

Hey guys,

Just a quick question...but has anyone noticed that after changing the name of the mediaprovider.apk file that that switch on/off tone has changed. Immediately after changing that file, my tone changes to 4-5 fast beeps (almost like a bios error beep on speed). Once the file is changed back this goes away. I don't mind the sound, I just wondering if it was a sign of an error or instability.

Thanks,

Linzi

I believe mediaprovider.apk, amongst doing other things like generating the annoying thumbnail/thumbdata files, is responsible for gathering together the notification sound files which you can select from. If it's removed I suppose the system defaults to the beeps. I turned off my on/off tone as soon as I got my Scroll, so never noticed the side effect :)

Hey,

That's fine I just wanted to check. I think I'd rather have a lack of thumbnail files than a noise on startup. Excellent advice by the way, my Scroll is great now!!

Thanks!

You need to use an explorer with full root access rights - use 'Root explorer' (it's a paid app) - This one works very well, I use it a lot. I think a free app called 'Super Manger' does the same - (I can't remember TBH )

Remember to only rename the phone apps (not delete them) - in this order...

Phone.apk (you will get instability after this, so just force the Scroll to power down and restart)
Mms.apk
TelephonyProvider.apk
Remember, strict order. PMT!
