I would suggest that he remove the relative posts and links to his updates as it wont be too long before he completely bricks a trusting newcomers tablet. A bit irresponsible to post them here as they were posted untested and before he even had a scroll!. He is just learning as he goes along like the rest of us, but unlike the rest of us he insists on encouraging users to use his edited scripts under the pretence he knows what he is doing. A classic case of a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. sorry, it needed saying.
As a developer myself, I have to seriously wonder if this post was made by someone from SO or simply someone who has fallen foul of modding in the past and now feels it necessary to don a breadboard and hail "the end is nigh" whenever someone offers to develop (for free, off his own back, and in his own time, for the good of anyone who would like to use them I might add!) software changes for a device.
Let me highliiously unmade point here, Storage Options stated right at the beginning, any changes to the hardware, or non-Storage Options updates applied will void the warranty, therefore if you want to use an update, or change, or addition posted on here, you must be prepared that A: You will void your warranty and B: You will stand a slim chance of irreversably damaging your tablet. Those are risks that you take when doing something like this.
I've been a developer for many years, I hold a degree in Computer Science and have worked with many different languages on many different platforms and OS's, I can tell you from first hand experience, even the origional developers don't get it right (Lets look briefly at the firmware history for the scroll shall we? 5% battery issue, inverted app issue, calibration app issue, market issue (and that's a MAJOR ONE!) not to mention more minor "niggling" ones forum members have mentioned!) Microsoft - one of the biggest software developers on the planet... Windows ME and Vista anyone?
We'd all like a full software changelog/service manual/hardware address list/hardware list/driver packages and step by step how-to for how the scroll is made and installed, however we're not going to get that, however there are people who are willing to use their existing knowledge to trawl through the android system files in order to make changes to improve the tablet. Same as there are people willing to risk damaging or worst still, completely frying their tablet to tell us/show us what's inside - I won't go into a tirade about the curiosity of man and its part in encouraging our development, but dude, there will always be those of us that look at an electronic device and go "ooo, I wonder what happens if..."
This DOES NOT mean you have to then blinding go and do the same. We're not pointing a gun at you and forcing you to update your tablet, and disclaimers are put in place to begin with, if you're too lazy to read them, that's your fault, no one elses.
The continued work and dedication of the people on this forum to find solutions to issues, all because they own and love their scroll tablet is what makes this forum so brilliant, when I purchased my scroll, one of the deciding factors was the fact that there was already an established community looking for ways to improve and adapt the existing software/hardware to extract the best possible experience out of their purchase as they could!
On a related note - I'm sat here now, with my old XDA Mini S next to me (about 3 years old or so) Came with Windows Mobile 5, it now has 6.5, and a mild overclock, two items which could only be possible due to the work of owners and developers willing to put their own time into creating the necessary builds and software (I will give a quick shoutout to XDA Developers at this point, they may be a sullen bunch but they do get the job done!). I realise that both of these things could have bricked my phone, however I weighed the pros and cons and decided that it would provide more benefits than drawbacks, that said, the phone has been on this build for just over a year and is working fine, even with an overclock and business grade use 6 days out of every 7!
So seriously, before you take another knock at these people, realise that they are simply offering up a possible fix that some people might well be grateful for, I know from personal experience that root access will be very useful as I need to change the ad-hoc network settings on mine to make it more useful for what I do. We're all making the best of a bad situation, SO won't give us any background information for software change purposes, or a built in way to take a backup, these guys are offering a third way and are even willing to adjust future SO updates to work with their modifications. If you don't like this, that's fine, keep yours stock and deal with SO's updates and the issues included within.
I'll also make a final point, Linux, the open-source operating system that Android is based upon, is supported, developed and tested heavily by lots of people in their spare time, this is one of the reasons why it's one of the most secure and well developed operating systems in existance, by your viewpoint, they should all leave well alone and leave it upto those who are software developers by trade and profession, and instead turn the operating system into another £90-a-licence OS?
Sorry for the long post, but that really annoyed me *gets off of soapbox*
