scroll sparks!

Postby mojo » January 28th, 2011, 7:28 am

abit worried about this:

i plugged in the mains charger by hadn't fully seated the connector, the edge of which was causing small sparks as it touched the chassis!
that cant be good for it surely?

or am i just being paranoid?

no, the usb charging is fine, just the mains connector, if you dont push it all the way in, give it a wiggle and it starts sparking?

It will do that from time to time, if it blows up send it back. The easiest (and safest) way is to connect the charger first, then turn on the power at the wall socket.

Employees are like mules. Some you stand in front of and coax them along with a carrot. Some you stand behind and kick them in the arse. The key to management is knowing which mules are which!

but that means getting up off the sofa and covering the vast distance (read: less than two meters) to the wall socket!
might just put a tiny bit of 'leccy tape around the area to prevent further shorts ;)

@ Warpedflash: :o remember that if you brick it 'yea it just shorted out one day and doesn't work now' ;) :D

The device isn't double insulated... some fun for you:
plug in the charger and switch on
hold scroll in left hand (touching the alu casing)
rub better half's ear and watch them freak out at the humming noise
enjoy the new form of torture
:)
