Early help

Postby newscroller » January 28th, 2011, 6:04 pm

Just got my new scroll today and have a couple of questions

My WiFi keeps dropping in and out, is that a Scroll issue or a wi fi issue?

I can't find how to show the percentage charged on the battery

When I downloaded the androidpit app centre I got three files - do I need them all?

Thanks for any help

The wifi aerial on the scroll isn't the beefiest going, but if you have a half decent signal strength, the signal shouldn't be dropping out. Have you got another wireless device (laptop, smartphone etc) to try with just to see if that drops out as well.

If it does, wireless router is at fault, check to make sure the aerial is screwed in correctly, if that doesn't solve the issue there may be a fault with the router itself, try those first, and if you're still having issues, let me know make/model of your router and I'll talk you through the steps to do a full reset and firmware update on your router - also let me know if it was purchased by you or if you got it via your internet service provider.

Otherwise, you may have a loose or faulty wifi antenna, in which case, you're fully within your rights to request a replacment.

Percentage charge of your battery isn't shown on Android 2.1 - there is an app called Battery Monitor (free) you can get it from the market (if it's available on your tablet) or download it from here - http://www.androlib.com/android.applica ... jxzDm.aspx - there are also lots of other apps that do the same thing so you might want to look around for the most suitable.

Androidpit - haven't got it installed at the moment but if I do before someone else comes up with an answer I'll post the response to this one - what are the file names/extensions?

Thanks Kommander

The wifi aerial is picking up other signals, just not the one in the office that is 30 feet away. It has worked over the day but just doesn't seem to be picking up the signal consistently. The router aerials are fine and I've turned it off and on again to no avail. The router controls all our cabled broadband in the office and seems to be fine otherwise.

I don't seem to have the market on my tablet - but it came with firmware 1.02 pre-loaded

All the android pit programmes seem to be the same, when I installed one, it told me that all of the others would replace the one I had installed. How do I delete the other two?

I'm not too keen on androidpit to be honest, which is the simplest app store I can get access too?

By the way, I bought the keyboard and stand - maplins as well - and the keyboard doesn't work - even though I am using the non-host usb port.

Help!

Keyboard - You need to use the host port! I made that mistake first time I used mine too!

1.02 doesn't have market access as part of it (the team are working on a 2.2 build with FULL market access, so watch this space!)

With the android pit files, it might simply be a case of downloading the same file 3 times, can you tell me what the file names are, that might give me a better idea if this is indeed the case.

Personally, I've been googling apps as i've needed them and then downloaded them through the browser or using the marketplace, however the following might provide you with some useful alternatives :

http://thenextweb.com/apps/2011/01/09/6 ... id-market/

With the router issue, I realise that with it being an office router, a reset is completely out of the question, does anyone work wirelessly in the office? Has anyone else complained of connectivity issues? if so, I would suspect the router, secondly the fact that it's picking up other signals would suggest a router with either a faulty antenna connection or a faulty wireless chipset (we see a few of them come our way every few months) if this is indeed the case, the only solution would be to either RMA the router (if it's still in warranty) or purchase a replacement.

The other way to confirm would be to try the tablet on another wireless network, under similar conditions, and see if it stays connected.

Issues like this are always a simple case of logically breaking down the problem and finding a logical problem solving path, once you've erradicated all other possibilities, whatever remains, is the reason behind the issue.

Kommander,

Thanks for your help.

The keyboard now works

The wifi problems seem to have gone away since I charged the scroll up for 20 hours over the weekend. I really think it was due to it not having enough power. It even worked on the Virgin train free wifi this morning, which was good.

I have removed the androidpit app and will do as you suggest, loading apps up if I need them direct from the browser.

Thanks again

Glad I could help :)

just incase you didn't see it, I did put a link to a run-down of alternatives to the Android Market on my last post, you might find some of them useful, if only just for the browsing aspect (some of the best apps I've installed have simply been down to browsing through what's available and trying one out!)
