Linzd, I've found that if I have USB plugged in while I try to access the recovery screen mine also freezes, I just unplug anything and find that works.

Thanks JimmyW - I did not know that - good tip :D

@linzd87 - I think JimmyW may have the answer to the issue ^^^

With regards to the file install-recovery.sh (well it's 1 file of 3, but removing one of the files stops this) if that file is still there it flashes back the 'stock' recovery on boot, so you will find out once you get into recover mode, whether it is CWM or stock recovery. The file would not be causing an issue to getting into recover mode, it is more the USB been plugged in, as said by JimmyW.

Ah rite! That makes sense, I had my USB plugged in at the time! I'll give this a go when I get home (I should really start taking my scroll to work ;) ) and let you guys know. I understand what you both mean about the recovery, it hadn't occurred to me that the issue was with getting into the recovery rather the which version, that's for later!

Thanks guys, I'll keep you informed

Hi,

I've tried to enter recovery mode without any USB devices attached and still no success. Has anyone else managed to get a stock v1.02 into recovery mode? if so, how? I'm at a loss!

Holding in the Vol up button while powering on should get you into Recovery

Hi Detection,

It doesn't I'm afraid, it just freezes on the white "Scroll" screen. I have to switch it off and back on again to make it respond

in the 1.02 download from the SO website there is an instal-recovery.sh file.
Is that what you need? By the way my upgraded unit doesnt have this file either.

Must be a quirk of FW 1.02

I only tried that update for around 30 seconds, and after seeing that my scroll was almost a brick, flashed ClockWorkMod back and restored my 1.01 backup

I don't have the install-recovery.sh file at all (that I can find) but I figured it should still be able to go into recovery mode, whether CWM or otherwise...I'm tempted to ask SO how to get into recovery mode but not sure what to say if they ask why. Should recovery mode work right out of the box? If so, would I be ok to restore back to factory settings then try again. All I've done is rooter it, would restoring it be safe/worthwhile?

I'm gutted about this, I was really looking forward to playing around with the scroll but I can't do too much without the safety net of CWM!

Thanks for all your help and hopefully this issue will be solved in time

I have 1.02 and I can get into recovery mode by holding down volume up key, press power on for a few seconds until the word scroll appears, then an android figure (I don't have clockwork mod) at which point you can leave go of volume up and then I have to press the home key for the recovery menu to appear. I have done this rooted and unrooted and with and without install-recover.sh. Note with ordinary recovery menu the keys are not quite the same, volume up to move between options, volume down to select.
