DO you have anything dumped out to the SD card?
I haven't used romdump before so am actually bugger all use here but it was what was suggested to me to dump the current system. If it wont work its no huge loss as I am sure someone who is better than me will be able to do something. Also I will be able to fiddle more when my thing actually arrives.

Edit: ah bugger I guess wait till someone with a bit more know how shows up or mine arrives and I am more willing to risk that fiddling than some random internet persons one
