Sync the scroll

Postby Tradavang » February 7th, 2011, 9:35 am

I know syncing has been around for some time now but ive never actually done it or tried. Just wondering if some kind soul would consider writing a how to guide, what apps are needed and maybe some pro's and cons, for and against.

Yes sync with with pc. I understand that its supposed to make the scroll and pc duplicate eachother in some way. But do i need to tell it what to sync, what folders or files to sync and what are the benefits of syncing, is it done over wifi or usb and where is the built in app you use. like i said i have never tried this before.

not really you treat the scroll nand and the external sd card like another drive in windows explorer. when you mount them in the scroll settings. when you connect a usb cable to the pc, on the scroll bar at the top of the screen you will see two usb icons then you drag the top bar down to show the usb internal/external in the reading window and you click on what you want to mount a pop up will confirm you want to mount, and you click mount, then windows will see them as drives, and you can view the files in my computer with your own drives in windows explorer.
Best regards brian.

Just been reading this and there looks to be a lot more to it than just dragging files through the usb from pc to scroll and back.

its not hard its easy to manage your files once you get used to it you have choices how to move/copy files etc not just drag and drop you can copy and paste to.

I've always left syncing well alone because of the complications. What sort of stuff are you thinking of syncing? Are there files which you modify frequently and you want an up to date copy on both your PC and Scroll? Or, are you adding files to your PC which you want automatically copied to the Scroll (or vice versa)?

You would need to connect the Scroll by USB to the PC as described and then run some syncing software on the PC which keeps track of specific folders on the Scroll and matches them to folders on the PC. You have to set sync priorities - which files to replace with newer versions, which to leave, and on which machine.

Unless you're a business user and frequently add or modify files, I'd leave alone.
