BBC TV app

Postby bitsink » February 9th, 2011, 11:42 am

Having heard that an app for iPad and android is going to be released at the end of the week I did a bit more research and found the following statement from the BBC

"For iPad it's straightforward, but for technical reasons we can't bring the app to every single Android device. To download and use the app you'll need a device that uses Android version 2.2 and has Adobe Flash 10.1 Player installed. Our Flash streams need a powerful mobile phone processor and a Wi-Fi connection to ensure a smooth viewing experience, which means that only newer, more powerful Android 2.2 devices connected via Wi-Fi can support the Flash 10.1 streaming experience." :(

So roll on the upgrade to 2.2. :)

There will not be Flash 10.1 in the 2.2 upgrade for the scroll, as it only has a Arm11 v6 and a v7 is needed for Flash 10.1 - Sorry

Oh! How come the ipad that does not have flash is supported but Android has to have flash? (Not really expecting an answer) :D

More than likely an App which does not require flash is being used for the iPad - Much the same as we can watch youtube videos with the youtube app and no flash

Yeah the beeb have written iplayer directly for the iphone using a different method as at the time flash wasn't allowed on the iShat, but because 2.1/2.2 Arm v7 droids have no issues with the legality of flash they just used the flash wrapper for it (Speedy development and lower costs than creating a whole new framework)
