Brand new.

Postby LameDuck » February 17th, 2011, 7:34 pm

Hi guys, I'm Jim. Some would say a Jim, but I like to think of myself as The Jim ;-)

Had my scroll 24 hours and have to say, it's a lot better than I was expecting for the money!Going to follow the recommended fixes for it at the weekend and see what happens. In the mean time, could somebody recommend a MS Word doc editor, as this is prolly the main reason I bought the device, to write on the train...

Thanks, this looks like a friendly forum :-)

Hi Jim (The).

Welcome to the madhouse! Please feel free to troll through the many topics on here for help. Regarding a word editor, i use documents to go, the paid version (about a tenner) allows editing/creation but i believe there are free alternatives.

Regarding writing on a train, I find most people use spray cans or marker pens. Trying to write with your scroll might damage it.

I went for the 7, with wallet and keybord, all in for 160 quid, from Maplins. I thought it was a proper barg. It's a real shame google don't let users of devices like this just pay and subscribe to the "Google experience" and get all the apps. If the cost wasn't mental, I'd pay it...

Quite possibly the wrong place to post this, but would you know why when I select local files in documents to so, it seems that /sd/whatever, is pointed at internal memory, not the SD card. I can't spot a way to change it to external memory. The card is formatted and mounted and if I mount it, is visible from the PC.

Any ideas?

Thanks :-)

Ah, a scoob. When I connected the internal SD to my PC, to copy a single file I wanted to use, I noticed documents to go was now using the external card as expected. Guess there is a backwards priority here!

Most file managers etc seem to see /nand as the sd card instead of the external sd card. I guess thats the way the software is written, however most software does have the ability to choose a storage area built in. For example FBReader sees the internal nand as the books directory until you change it to the sdcard in settings ( just change the software to point to /sdcard not /nand)

It thinks it's pointing to /sdcard. I saw on their forums that somebody else was having a similar problem and they answered that it picks the first sdcard "type" android reports to it and assumes that's the TF. Sound right, because when I connected the internal to my PC, to temp drop a file to work on in there, it suddenly saw the right card. I'm guessing that making it available to the PC, stopped it being available to apps, which meant that the external one then became the first. Does that make sense?

I think I may have to send the app back and look for something else to edit word docs :-( Shame, not a bad looking app...
