A Scroll Tablet (but fustrated) rookie

Postby tapenery » February 17th, 2011, 7:55 pm

Hi folks

I have received the Scroll Tablet from Maplins earlier this week and liking it at moment. I feel it's a great alternative to the expensive iPad.

However, I am tearing my hair out at the moment. Although I am trying out the different apps that is included with the tablet, I am having problems connecting the tablet onto my Orange Livebox via WiFi. When it searches for a WiFI spot to connect online it picks up the neighbours houses as well as the local BTFON signal but it does not pick up the Livebox signal. I have tried to key it into the setup but it's saying "remebered" but it's not picking it up the signal. I have tried pairing the device to the Livebox but nowt, I have also switched the security from WPA to WEP to no security, still nowt. Even when the tablet is next to the Livebox, it's giving me the impression it doesn't want to interact with the wireless modem.

Any help will be great.

Hi Tapenery, welcome to the forum!

No wifi connection? thats odd.... One thing springs to mind, what wifi channel is your livebox on? I find that if i change my netgear router to channel 12 or 13 the scroll wont connect - anything from 1-11 is ok. The scroll also seems to dislike "dual channel routers" (i.e 300MB ones). I find if i leave mine on 150MB the scroll behaves better.

Need more help? feel free to ask...

You're brilliant! It was on channel 13, changed it from 13 to 11 and it's now picked the signal.

On another note. I did try to register by my intial username (travisp) but it seems my activation email has never arrived. Is there any chance that account be deleted so I can activate it again with an alternative email address or can have the mods change the one I am using now (tapenery) to my initial one (travisp)?

Glad you got it sorted.

If you find that you suffer from drop-outs / interference on wifi I can recommend a program called inSSIDer available free from http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/
Youll need to install it on a laptop/pc with a wifi connection. It will show you all the wifi channels that are in use in your area so you can pick one that is less used or vacant (if available). Dual-channel signals (300MB/s ones) will normally show up between two channels (ie 1-4 or 6-10)

No activation email? did your mail account throw it in a spam folder somewhere?

The scroll uses Narrow WiFi channel range (1-11), the channels 12-16 are for N-type connections which B/G for the most part cannot see.

Jimmy: Interesting....

I have an HP wifi printer which is b/g only but that connects fine on channel 13, maybe is just the specific wifi card used in the scroll that cant see 12 &13 - I have no idea what manufacturer wifi is in the printer.
