Accelerometer axies swapped

Postby craigtyson » February 23rd, 2011, 9:30 am

Hi

I've looked thouh the forums an couldnt see any posts re this so thought I'd start a new one

If I run any apps that use the accelerometer / position sensor, the app is either 90 degrees out or takes directions 90 degrees from the mogement.

For example google sky map shows a horison that is vertical regardles of which way up the scroll is.

Also raging thunder requires the scroll to be held portrait while the game run landscape to b able to use the tilt steering.

Anyone else have the same issues or found a fix?

Hi Craig,

I'm not sure about this one. I know some of my apps work "upside-down", for example playing Bejeweled 2 I have to turn the scroll 180 deg to play it. I dont have any games that rely on the accelerometer to play them (boring!).

Just one thought though, did you calibrate the screen with the built-in app when you got the scroll? if so it might be worth resetting to default to see if it cures it as the calib app is.. um...crap. :D

Ok I have done some digging. Looks like its a pretty comon problem with lots of different hardware. I recently tried a fix for a phone with the same issue and have just had to reflash back to factory and redo all my mods and installs oh hum.
However there should be a fix and if there are any developers out there who can look at framework.jar in /system/framework and libsurfaseflinger.so in /system/libs then we might be able to setup a setting switch to let users select how the sensors behave.

Hi Craig,

What handset have you been playing with? I might be able to help, if its a Nokia, Samsung, SE, Motorola, Apple or LG.

Im not accredited for android handsets yet, but we are supposed to be getting a trainer in for HTC some time soon, I should be one of the first to know.

I can email a few contacts and find some answers if need be, but my contacts know nothing about the Scroll

I haven't managed to upgrade my OS yet and my ScroTab rotation is locked to landscape mode. I get certain apps that always open upsidedown-portrait mode (hereafter reffered to as UDPM), sometimes menus within landscape apps are UDPM. Off the top of my head, Bubble Burster and Met-Office weather app.
It's all fun and games, until someone loses an eye ;)

Raging Thunder works perfectly though it's not the best racer!

The fix I found was a patch on the modaco forums which I hoped might be generic but turned out not to be.

I'm guessing that the fix would work if the update could be incorporated into the scrolls files.
